Catch up on some great Team long distance racing which happened on the 23rd and 24th of July.

An  intrepid group of our Senior distance squad ventured out furtheDSC03258r & longer last weekend as they entered two mixed teams of 6 in the 24 hour relay event near Cirencester.

Running over a 5.6 mile multi terrain course the 1st team won the mixed team event setting a new record distance for mixed teams and finished an impressive 2nd overall completing 37 laps just one lap behind an all-male team of 8 and.

The 2nd team ran 33 laps to finish 7th overall and 5th mixed team. Each runner ran either 5,6 or 7 laps over the 24 hours covering 28 – 39 miles each !

Congratulations to Ollie Harradence, Simon Lees, Steve Marklew, Andrea Deathridge, Dean England, Russ Simpson (1st team); Dave Long, Paul Terleski, Chris Taylor, Gemma Sidaway, Matt Stenson and John Fletcher.

Special mention to Ollie who ran all his legs under 36 mins, ran the events fastest leg of the weekend & who also organised the event for the teams plus Andrea, who was the most consistent runner of the weekend.

Lower YDL Promotion

The results for the last lower YDL are still to be finalised, but with two events and the officials points to be accounted for the team were well ahead and it seems certain that they will be promoted, as they were in a strong position after the first three competitions.
Many congratulations to athletes who have trained hard all season, as this has certainly paid off with the vast majority gaining new PBs. Thanks to parents and to club volunteers for their continued support at competitions.
Promotion will bring with it new challenges as the clubs in the higher division tend to set higher standards; athletes will need to focus on their own performances rather than those of the athletes around them. For parents, it will mean giving up more time as the clubs are from a wider area – Telford, Stoke, Nottingham, Stafford and Coventry (based at Warwick University).
Thanks again to everyone involved. I’m already looking forward to next season!

Muninder is a triple European Champion!!!

13680789_1064074000340127_281010602313569137_nMuninder Singh Hayer and his coach Graham Felton have just returned from Copenhagen where Muninder was competing for England in The CPISRA Racerunning Open European Championships. This was Muninder’s first overseas competition and he rose to the challenge magnificently. He won all his heats and made the finals in 5 events with the following results
  • 40 metres Gold Medal
  • 60 metres Gold Medal
  • 100 metres Gold Medal
  • 200 metres Silver Medal
  • 400 metres 4th
TThat meant 10 races for Muninder over 2 days of competition and all this achieved after only taking up the sport just over a month ago.  He produced new personal bests in every event.
Now he is Triple European Champion and raring to go on to even greater heights.
The England team managed to win 8 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze medals in total and a wonderful time was had by all.

Record Breaker!

Many congratulations to Isabel Male, u 13 girl, who broke two sprint records at the Lower YDL competition on Saturday.

Isabel ran the 75 m in 10.5 seconds and the 150 m in 20.6 seconds. Isabel is unbeaten this season in the YDL competition, gaining first place in all her races. She is now ranked  3rd in the Midlands for the 75 m and 3rd for the 150 m.

Both of these records have stood since 1998, which is testament to how speedy Isabel is – and with another 12 months in the u 13 age group.

Well done Issy!
