Royal Sutton Coldfield Athletics Club’s athletes put in great performances at the XC County Championships on Saturday, winning a fantastic haul of individual and team medals. The club has three new County Champions, with Sian Duval (U13G) and Lewis Duval (U17M) winning their races at the Staffordshire Championships at Sandwell Valley, whilst Ollie Harradence won the Men’s Masters title at the Warwickshire Championships at Warley Woods.

There was a fantastic performance by the U13 girls with Mante Nausedaite finishing 2nd, Martha Wood 3rd and Charlotte Prince 5th to win the team race by a large margin. Great support from Bethan Homer (6th), Charlotte Crees (8th) and Zara Buchanan (10th) meant that the club’s B team finished ahead of the 2nd place club in the competition. The U13 boys won silver medals with George Hope finishing 5th, Ethan Patel 6th and Jack Wakefield 8th. George O’Connor was 6th in the U13 boys race at Staffordshire and will hope to earn a county vest as a reward for his fine run.
There was a bronze medal for the U13 girls team with Charlotte Hey finishing 5th, Lucy Carey 7th and Lucy Corker 12th. Ellen Humpherston won silver with a second place finish for the U17 women whilst Caitlin White finished 8th. Georgia Curry won silver in the U20 women’s race. There were many other great individual performances and a number of athletes will be selected to represent their counties at the Inter County Championships in March.

20171208_195004There were fantastic individual and team performances at the 2nd men’s XC race at Trentham last Saturday. Shaun Evans had an AWESOME run to finish in 2nd place overall – we’d love to know if any of our RSCAC runners have ever had a higher finish in Division 1! Great runs by Joe Spruce (62nd), Alex Jones (78th), Barry Lloyd (89th), Tom Parkes (98th) and Ashley Powell (128th)  saw the A team finish 9th. The B team was 12th in the B league race.

Midland Women’s XC League – 2 December

Screenshot_20171208-194913Here’s a report by Roy about last weekend’s Women’s XC fixture:
The ladies competed in the 2nd cross country league meeting at Stratford on Avon on what was described by the organisers as a “proper” cross country course. Despite a much changed team due to illness and injury they were still able to come home with an excellent result finishing 11th out of the 24 teams competing, and so keeping us in 11th place overall.
On a day which was forecast to be dry the BBC managed to get it wrong so light rain persisted most of the time making for a slippy course
The 1st runner home for the club was Andrea Deathridge followed by Gemma Sidaway, Rachel Thebridge and Georgia Delaney.
The next league meeting takes place at Cofton Park on the 13th January and the Warks XC championship takes place on the 6th Jan (both also on proper XC courses!)

Shaun - Liverpool

Well done to Shaun Evans who had a great run in Liverpool at the Cross Challenge. Representing the Midlands and competing against the best distance runners in the country he finished 54th (18th U23). Well done Shaun – a cracking start to the season!

Kevin Brown has just returned from St Lucia where he was helping out at a small school athletic program. Whilst there he attempted to break the World record of 3 minutes for pulling a two ton Jeep over 100m – he did this by achieving 2mins 44secs. Well done Kevin!!!

Summary results by age group were as follows:

  • U17W – 7th, Ellen Humpherston 1st home in 20th.
  • U11B – 4th, Will Stead 15th and all counters (Harvey Gillett, Harrison North, Isaac Cartwight and Zak Tisdale) home in top 29
  • U17M – 8th, Lewis Duval 16th first back for the club
  • U11G – 5th, Evie Sandland 15th
  • U15B – 10th, Joe Martin 31st
  • U13G – 2nd, Sian Duval 6th and all counters in top 21 (well done to Hope Stirland, Mante Nausedaite, Charlotte Crees and Bethan Homer)

  • U15G – 3rd, Lucy Carey 16th and all 5 counters in top 32 (Charlotte Hey, Libby Turney, Elsa Buchanan, Lucy Corker)

There were lots of great performances beyond those mentioned above. Well done everyone!

Next up it’s Perry Park on 10th December. That’s almost a home fixture so no excuses for not running. And then it’s back to Warley Woods for the County Championships in January.

Birmingham XC League Div 1 – 11 November

A big thank you to all those who ran on Saturday at Cheltenham. The A team finished 13th out of 16 teams which puts us just above the relegation zone, not bad considering we were missing a number of regular A team counters. Well done to our x/c debutants Barry, Valentin and Ashley who all scored in the A team – something to live up to now lads (except for Valentin who will be leaving the UK this week to return to France – Thank you and all the best for the future, we hope you have some happy memories of RSCAC and English cross country to take home with you).

An even bigger thank you to Bob Owen who acted as our “Official” for the day, saving a penalty of 200 points had we not provided our “finish funnel” official.

The 2nd fixture is on Saturday 2nd December at Park Hall Country Park, Hulme Road, Weston Coyney, Stoke-on-Trent (post code for SAT-NAV ST3 5AX). Please let Steve know if you are planning to compete.
