Venue change – Heart of England on Sun 31 Aug

I’ve just found out that the Heart of England on 31 Aug is now at Leamington, not Daventry. Apologies for any inconvenience. I’ve no idea why they have changed the venue. New address is;

Edmondscote Athletics Track
River Close
Leamington Spa
CV32 6AD

Please spread the word….I don’t want anyone unnecessarily going to Daventry!

Athletics AGM Tuesday 21st October 8pm in Clubhouse. New committee members needed.

Please take note of the date of the athletics club AGM. This meeting is the chance for you to voice any comments/concerns you might have. It is also the change to put forward yourself to be on the athletics club committee. If you would like to help run the club, please attend this meeting and put yourself forward. We urgently need new blood and because we have lost two of our younger members to university and to living abroad, we especially need people in the 16 – 30 age bracket. You will get the chance to know what is going on in the club and obviously will have a say in club activities when you attend a monthly meeting, which takes place 8 – 9/9.30pm on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Can you do an officials course?

The club desperately needs more level two officials. If you would be willing to help the club out by raking a pit/measuring jumps and throws/time keeping/positioning athletes/starting races, please apply to do a level 2 officials course. (We get points for providing officials at each meeting but only if they are Level 2 or above.) There are courses for track, timekeeping, field & starter on 27 Sept at Alexander Stadium. See the below link for more info and email rscac@hotmail.co.uk if you are interested or speak to Meg Evans at the track.

Thank you.

A fantastic day for our senior athletics team!

Nicholas PWow – What a result!!! A fantastic team performance saw the senior athletics team win the final fixture of the season.

The star performance of the day came from Nicholas Pryce who broke his own club record in the 100m with a time of 10.6, won his 200m and 400m races, recorded a 30m javelin throw and finished the day off with superb legs in the relays. What a day!!!

Kane Howitt scored stacks of points in the sprints and jumps, Lana Partridge and Megan McBrien dominated the middle distance races, whilst our throwers (Kevin Brown, Connor Notley, Graham Felton, Chrissie Prince, Lorna Foster and Fiona Smith) were all superb. In particular, Chrissie recorded fantastic wins in the shot putt and discus. Special mention also to Vici Richardson who ran a great 3k to win us 5 points only a few days after completing a 24 hour endurance race.

There were club records for Andrea Deathridge (W40 400m hurdles – 84.6), Fiona Smith (W50 Women Hammer (4Kg) – 25.72m), Graham Felton (M65 Hammer (7.26 Kg) – 18.81m) and Nick Corker (M35 3k steeplechase 10.01.8).

In summary, everyone contributed hugely with many people competing in multiple events and others competing in new events (both on Saturday and throughout the season). A fantastic team effort – Well done everyone!!!

1500mThanks as always to our officials and supporters who braved the at times apocalyptic conditions. As always your efforts are greatly appreciated!!!

And finally thanks to John T and Fiona S for all their support and efforts through the season as Team Managers.

Look out for a report in this weeks Observer.

Laura Whittle 6th at Commonwealth Games !

Laura Whittle - CWGLaura Whittle had a storming last 400m to finish 6th at the Commonwealth Games 5K race in Glasgow, and be 2nd home for the home nations.

Running a fast but sensibly paced race for most of the race, Laura overtook all the runners immediately ahead of her in the last 800m, and ran her second ever fastest 5k in less than ideal conditions.

No doubt that the crowd in Hampden Park cheered Laura on for what was an amazing finish !

Well done Laura we are all proud of you !
