Senior women record best ever finish in National Road Relays!!!

A fantastic run by our senior women saw them finish 11th at the National Road Relays in Sutton Park yesterday – the best result ever achieved by the club.  Katie Ingle ran a really strong leg (the 13th fastest of the day) to put us into 5th place on leg 1. Laura Whittle then took us up to 2nd place behind only Aldershot Farnham & District. Laura’s leg was the 8th fastest of the day – a great run given she has just returned to training following a rest after the Commonwealth Games. Larna Partridge and Kate McBrien then ran superbly to keep us at the front of the field. Well done Katie, Laura, Larna and Kate!!!

There was a battling performance by the senior men’s team (Nick Corker, Rob Andrew, Steve Marklew, Jon Higgins, Jim Barlow and Dean England) who finished 72nd.

Nottingham/Windsor Half Marathons

We runners out pounding the streets in Nottingham and Windsor last weekend. Kate McBrien provided the highlight, running 1.26.22 at the Nottingham Half, knocking huge chunks of time off her previous PB. The time puts her 14th in her age group in the UK rankings. Chris Taylor ran 1.22.03, whilst Matt Powell ran a PB of 1.38.10. In the Nottingham Marathon Paul Jenkins ran 3.26.24.

At Windsor we had seven runners in action. Russell Simpson was first back for the club in 9th place in a time of 1.23.18. Well done also to Dean England, Mark Rickards, Steve Marklew, Paul Terleski, Matt Stenson and Subodh Dave.

A plea from one of the club’s new Life Members

A Life Membership – what a wonderful surprise! I thought I’d take this opportunity to appeal to some of you to come along and help us keep our family-friendly, competitive club running smoothly.
As well as being an athlete and coach, I am a member of the club committee, an official and a team manager. On this note, the club always needs officials for meetings to go ahead, and as the club gets points for providing them, officials are vitally important. So if you would be happy to do a one day officials course and help out at some meetings in the summer, please leave your details at the coffee bar. The same goes for team managing and coaching.
If you think you could volunteer your services for our lovely athletics club, please leave your details behind the coffee bar and myself or another committee member will get back to you. Who knows….you might be collecting your silver ‘Life Membership’ plate one day in the future!
Many thanks,
Meg Evans
