Vote for PaulThe results are in for the Runner’s World 26.2 challenge – unfortunately it wasn’t good news for our own Paul Davey. After a week of tireless campaigning and despite over 4,000 votes being cast in his favour he was pipped to the post in a photo finish. It must have been very close, with the lead changing hands countless times in the last 24 hours of voting.

Thanks to everyone for the support – he definitely had the whole club behind him!

Birmingham XC League – 7 December

More great results from the weekend, with the senior men putting in a strong performance at muddy Burbage Common. The A team finished 3rd and the B team won the B team race.

Everyone ran superbly and it was great to have another strong turnout with 18 runners competing.  Ollie Haradence had a great run to finish in 4th place, whilst Chris Taylor and Tom Chew also ran particularly well, improving significantly on their placings in the 1st race.  Well done everyone!

Thanks to Phil Pollock for helping with the officiating and to our small band of supporters who cheered us on in the cold. Your support is much appreciated.

The results are available on the Birmingham XC website.

West Midlands Young Athletes XC – 8 December

Well done to all the athletes who competed in the XC at Halesowen today. There was some great running on a really testing hilly course. In particular, congratulations to Alex Stapleton who won the U11 boys race and Georgia Curry who won the U15 girls race.

There was also a great team victory for the U11 girls with Tamysn Booth finishing 3rd, Lucy Corker 6th, Holly Tyson 7th, Lucia Cantone 13th and Milly Fidkin 21st. Special mention also to Emily Sandbrook who lost a shoe early in the race but still managed to finish 32nd!

The U11 boys ran superbly to finish 2nd in their team race. Joseph Martin (4th), Ryley Thomas (20th), Matthew Greenaway (21st) and Daniel Olatundun (30th) were the other scorers for the team.

Shaun Evans had a great run to finish 10th in the U17 men’s race, whilst there were top 20 finishes for a number of other athletes – Melissa Adkins was 14th and Ellen Humpherston was 15th in the U13 girls race, Grace Stirland was 19th in the U15 girls race and Molly Rees was 17th in the U17 women’s race.

Overall the club finished 5th on the day out of 19 clubs and is in 4th place after 3 races. The full results are available on the WMYACCL website. Photos taken by Marc Kirsten are available on our FLICKR page. Well done to everyone who ran!

Xmas Pudding Run

The U11 training squad and “Brian’s stars” will be heading to Cannock Chase on Sunday 22 December for a festive and fun training run across the Chase. Meeting at 8.50am at the clubhouse (for a 9am departure) the group will be heading over to Milford for a run (with lots of singing – Jingle bells, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, etc), followed by lunch at the Barley Mow Restaurant and a return for approx. 2.45pm.  The cost is £8 and parents/helpers would be more than welcome.

Please speak to Martin Phipps or Brian Higson if you want to go or if you require further details.

This weekend’s cross country

On Saturday the senior men compete at Burbage Common, whilst the senior women travel to Wolverhampton. Both teams are hoping to build on their strong start to the season (with both teams in 4th place in their respective leagues).

On Sunday the junior teams are in action in the 3rd West Midlands Young Athletes match at Halesowen.
