Well done to everyone who competed at the Shugborough Relays. We have now updated the Grand Prix points. Well done to Rob Andrew who took top points out of the 28 athletes competing. Steve Marklew remains the runaway leader in the men’s competition whilst Vici Richardson leads the women’s competition.

Midland U20/Senior Championships – 14/15 June
John Topliss reports on some great results at the Midland Championships and another club record:
SENIOR MEN
Nicholas Pryce set a new club record in getting the bronze medal in the 200m Final with a time of 21.35. He had earlier taken second place in his heat in 21.56. In the 100m he finished in 5th place in the Final in 10.87 won by Mark Lewis-Francis. In his heat he finished second with a time of 10.88.
Fred Tremblay had another great run to take 4th place in the 800m Final in 1.59.73 having earlier taken 2nd place in his heat. A great run by our Masters athlete.
SENIOR WOMEN
Megan Evans took 2nd place in the Long Jump with a leap of 5.12m.
UNDER 20 MEN
Kane Howitt took 6th place in the 200m Final in a time of 22.84 having run a time of 22.68 in his heat. . In the 100m he ran 11.16 and narrowly failed to make it through to the Final. He has a couple of more years to go in this age group.
Nicholas Mbewe was 6th in his heat of the 400m in 52.82.
UNDER 20 WOMEN
Amiyah Forrest was 7th in the 100m Final in 12.83 and 6th in the 200m Final in 26.64.
Muninder Singh Hayer wins bronze at EA Senior Disability Champs
Muninder Singh Hayer put in a fantastic performance to win a bronze medal at the England Athletics Senior Disability Championships at the Alexander Stadium last weekend. Competing in the F32 category Muninder finished in 3rd place in the Seated Club Throw with a distance of 11.54m. The event was won by Paralympic medallist Stephen Miller. The result was all the more impressive given that this was Muninder’s second ever competition and given that injury had prevented him from training during the last four weeks. Well done Muninder!
Libby Dunne wins County Champs!
Well done to Libby Dunne who became the Staffordshire Schools’ Under 15 Girls 1500m champion last Saturday at the Northwood Stadium. Great running Libby!
Shugborough Relays – 11 June
RSCAC had another successful outing at this year’s Shugborough Relays, with 8 teams entered, and 32 runners taking part!
All this thanks to the organisational brilliance of Roy Humpherson.
On a fast 2 miles course, two of the fastest legs came from Ollie Harradence (10.38), and Rob Andrew (10.57).
After the first leg, Ollie’s team “Not So Old“, was actually in the overall race lead of the Men Vet 160 Years category.
This was until Russell Simpson (11.26) ran a great second leg for the other RSC team “Nearly Vets“, gaining 4 places to bring the team into the overall club lead, a position which they retained and secured through Fred Tremblay (11.01) and Tony Hinchley (12.09), who anchored the team home in 4th place out of 36 team. “Not So Old” finishing 6th overall.
The “Old Speedsters” team whose 4 members aggregated a respectable 201 years, finished in a superb 3rd place in the Men’s Ultra Vets 200 Years category. The team was formed of Rob Andrew (10.57) who ran the second fastest leg on the day, John Fletcher (13.32), Colin McAuley (11.41) and Steve Marklew (11.41).
There were also great performances from Paul Davey (11.06) and Vici Richardson, both hitting a 2 miles PB, as part of the “Rose Between Thorns” mixed team.
In the “Men’s Open” category, the “Young Pretenders” team formed of Dave Long (11.48), Paul Terleski, Chris Taylor (11.35), and Mark Rickards (12.01), finished 13th out of 42, with Paul Terleski running a very fast second leg in 11.18, gaining 7 places in the process.
In the Ladies Vets 160 Years Category, Bunny will be pleased to know that strong runs from Katherine Lewis (15.33), Sarah Smewin (19.38), Carol Woodfield (16.40) and Lyn Ellis Taylor (17’55), saw the team “Bunny’s Angels” finish 14th out of 31 teams.

Police UK National Championships – 11 June
Paul Davey had a successful day at the 2014 Police UK Track & Field and Tug of War Championships, which took place at Uxbridge, on wednesday. Paul came back with two medals !
In the High Jump, a recently discovered talent, Paul won Bronze after clearing two Personal Bests of 1m55 and 1m60.
He then followed with Bronze in the 800m, before heading up North back to Shugborough to anchor a leg at the popular relays, as part of the “Rose Amongst Thorns” RSCAC team.
Well done Paul for a very successful police championships.
Allez “Le Fred” – Fred T finishes 3rd at the French Nationals
Fred Tremblay travelled back to France last weekend to compete in the 800m at the French National Championships. Competing against 13 other runners in hot conditions he battled through the field to finish in a fantastic 3rd place in a time of 2.00. Check out the RACE VIDEO to see Fred in action. Midland T&F League – 7 June
John T reports from the senior athletics match at the weekend:Hi everyone. A super team effort on Sunday. The results are now on the Power of Ten, although we will have to await the final position until the Midland Counties publish them.
I must admit I thought we would really struggle as we had a few last minute withdrawals (for good reasons) and my team declaration sheet became decimated. However the support I got from everyone to fill the gaps was outstanding, from athletes, parents and supporters. The noises of encouragement to our athletes was super for which I thank you all. My aim this year has been to remain in this Division and I hope when the points are finally published we will be on target to achieve this. We have two more meetings to go so lets keep up the performances and the team spirit.
There were some new club records set and here are the details.
- Mens 4x100m Relay team of Elliot Walker/Nicholas Pryce/Nicholas Mbewe and Kane Howitt in 44.0 secs. This beats the old record of 44.1 set back in 1987 , the team then was Steven Moulton, Nigel Hamblin, James Simmons and a very handsome 44 year old JT. I have thought of various reasons to disqualify the team (wrong colour baton, vests not tucked into shorts, running too fast, etc) but all of these have been rejected so the record stands. Seriously though well done guys – its about time .
- Connor Notley set two new Under 17 Boys records with the senior implements in the Discus (2Kg) 29.49 and the Hammer (7.26 Kg). Well done Connor!
- Charlie Hornby set a new Under 17 Boys Javelin record with the Senior Javelin(800g) of 39.71m.Well done Charlie!
- Fiona Smith set a new W50 record with the 4Kg Hammer of 25.30m actually throwing further than her W50 record with the 3kg Hammer. Great stuff Fiona!
Ruth has kindly provided me with the 4x400m relay splits. They are
- Men Nick M 53.1; Nick C 57.5; Kane 57.3; Nick P 48.1
- Women: Megan M 70.2; Georgia C 69.1; Charlotte N 68.2; Megan E 72.3
I will finish by reminding you all that the last two meetings are Sunday 6th July at Wyndley and Saturday 2nd August at Banbury.

Grand Prix Race 3 – Aldridge 10k
There were some great performances at the Aldridge 10k. Ollie Harradence followed up his Fun Run win with a 2nd place finish, whilst Steve Marklew won the M50 prize. Steve’s run was particularly impressive given that he ran both the 800m and 3000m for the senior men the previous day!

Katie Ingle article in Athletics Weekly
There was a great article about Katie Ingle in the “Young Athlete” section of last weeks Athletics Weekly. If you missed it there is a copy pinned up in the clubhouse (in Ian and Margaret’s Training area).
Katie was in action in the 1500m steeplechase at a BMC event in Milton Keynes on Saturday. She ran a new PB and club record of 4.50.89 as she won the race comfortably. Well done Katie!
