PBs galore at the Telford Games and Derby Athletics Festival

jasmine_walkerGraham Felton has sent in a report of some fantastic performances at the Telford Games and Derby Athletics Festival:

“Saturday’s Telford Games produced some excellent performances with a number of RSC athletes winning medals, here are the outstanding performances I saw:

Kane Howitt had a day to dream of winning double gold over 100 and 200 metres, both with Electronically timed PB’s. Jasmine Walker broke the club record with her first throw in the under-13 javelin competition  with a throw of 27.50 metres. She extended this to 27.92 metres with her 3rd throw, winning the competition and strengthening her position at the top of the West Midland rankings. She also is now placed in the top twenty of the UK rankings.
HannahRyan Humphries won gold in the High Jump taking his PB from 1.53 metres up to 1.60 metres. Hannah Smith won Silver in the U17 Discus with a new PB and Bronze in the Shot. Anna Short won Bronze in the U15 Shot with a new PB.
A small number of Sutton Athletes enjoyed great conditions and great success at the Derby Athletics Festival. Jasmine Walker threw 28.35 metres to win Gold which is the 3rd advance of the club record in 2 days. It extends her position as top of the WM rankings and puts her into 16th place in the UK rankings. Chrissie Prince won Gold in The U17 Shot and Discus and Bronze in the Hammer. Charlotte Prince (Chrissie’s little sister) won Bronze in the U11 600 metres in a new PB of 2.03 secs.”

Taster session for 7-9 yr old returns on Thursday 17 September

The Taster Session, for 7 -9 year olds, designed to create a ‘club-like’ environment, to increase the children’s athletic ability as well as their confidence, returns for a new Autumn term on Thursday 17th September 2015 between 5.00 and 6.00pm

Those children who attended the Summer Term are invited back, but if they have not attended the first 2 sessions in the new term, they will be deemed not to want to participate any further. Currently, we have a considerable waiting list, and all ’empty places’ resulting from the above will then be allocated to those currently on the waiting list.

For those returning to the new session on 17th September, you are urged to arrive earlier, as parents will be required to complete new paperwork. For this, the clubhouse will be open as from 4.30pm.

Because of increase costs, we have reluctantly had to increase the training fee to £2.00 per person per session.

In fairness to all new children who have NOT previously attended, nor on the waiting list, they will not be allowed to take part, but must firstly be added to the waiting list, applying preferably by email to phil.pollock@hotmail.co.uk.

Lucy, Max, Shaun and co look forward to meeting up with you again for an hour of running, jumping and throwing.

LA5 Race Report and Results

What a pleasant warm and sunny Sunday morning for the 22nd Hydro sponsored LA5 and Fun Run.

20602101834_e2fa15d7ce_oAs in previous years there were a lot of our regulars taking part and also some new faces that we hope to see again in the future. We are always glad to see the support from local clubs, running groups and unattached runners, but it is also very pleasing to see runners from clubs further afield such as Notts AC, Hinckley RC, Wrekin and Halesowen AC.

As always we will be making donations to three charities. Eloise and Lorreta from Birmingham Children’s Hospital, one of our nominated charities raised £49.79 on the day. Lorreta started the races and later on along with Eloise presented the prizes.

The LA5 always produces some good times and this year was no exception, the LA5 open prize winners were –

  • 1st lady Bethan Padbury   Hinckley Running Club             34 mins 10 secs
  • 2nd lady Nicola Ross           West Bromwich Harriers         37 mins 05 secs
  • 1st man Oliver Harradence   RSCAC   27 mins 25 secs
  • 2nd man Shaun Evans             RSCAC   27 mins 52 secs

Congratulations to all our prize winners.

Thank you to all competitors in both events and also a big thank you to all the volunteers that turned out to help on the day.
