Yesterday’s Heart of England at Redditch saw glorious weather and many great performances off Royal Sutton athletes. With athletes in 4 age groups competing, both male and female, it is too difficult to mention individuals without leaving someone out and I certainly don’t want to leave anyone out because everyone tried their hardest and performed well. So it’s a big well done to everyone as well as special praise to those who filled in on extra events to cover for last minute cancellations. Laura Whittle finishes 5th at European Championships
Another great run by Laura Whittle who finished 5th at the European Championships last night in a time of 15.24.18. Other GB runners in action were Steph Twell who finished 3rd and Elish McColgan who was 6th. Well done Laura – fantastic stuff!
No hurdles, high jump or throws tonight
Because people will be setting up for the Sutton Community Games tonight, there will be no throws, hurdles and high jump. So it will only be long and triple jump tonight, 5.30 – 7pm.
Match report – Midland League
Here’s John’s report from our 3rd match of the season at Oxford:Hi Everyone, The provisional results are now available for the 2nd match of the season. Unfortunately for us we did not do as well as I had hoped and only finished in 6th place – however amazingly we are still in 2nd place overall the league! The final meeting is at Solihull on Sunday the 7th August where we could win promotion but at the same time we could be relegated so lets get out the strongest team we possibly can and fill every event. It certainly was a day of mixed fortunes for us with two DQs, no throws and illness affecting our points scored. Once again there were many excellent performances with a super team atmosphere with athletes filling in where possible. The men’s distance duo of Nick Corker and Paul Thompson seemed to be competing all the time with Nick, in his first track meeting of the year competing in the 400m hurdles, 1500m, 2000m SChase, 5000m, triple jump and the javelin.
Conditions were not ideal with a strong blustery wind affecting performances however two new club records were set and four personal bests achieved.

Kevin and Lorna win at the Scottish Masters Champs
Kevin Brown and Lorna Foster had a successful trip up north to the Scottish Masters Champs that took place in Aberdeen on Saturday. The results were as follows:

Muninder to represent England at the Euro Racerunning Champs
On Sunday 10th July Royal Sutton Coldfield Athlete Muninder Singh Hayer and his coach Graham Felton are flying out to Denmark for the CPISRA Open European Racerunning Championships. Muninder has been competing for 13 years now and since the moment he won his first competitive medal he always knew sport was in his blood. He is a very determined individual and does not cIass himself different to anyone else. When he is on the track he is there to win! He always dreamt of getting his first international call up and when he did last year he wanted to prove to everyone that this was the beginning of something special. At the World Championships in Nottingham last year he won Gold in the F31 seated Club Throw, setting a World Record. Now he is competing for England at the European Championships in Denmark at his first overseas competition and the feeling is just magical. His aim to come away with a couple of medals and just get the job done.For the uninitiated Racerunning is a sport for wheelchair athletes with Cerebral Palsy and requires both physical and mental strength This will only be Muninder’s 3rd competition as a Racerunner.
Resounding victory for RSCAC at Tamworth
The lower YDL competition at Tamworth saw Royal Sutton Athletes triumph with an amazing score of 636 points; 150 points ahead of the team in second place. This result was thanks not only to the number of first and second place finishes on the day, which were literally too numerous to mention but also to the willingness of athletes to fill the gaps in less than familiar events.
A big thank you also to the number of officials from the club who gave up their time to ensure that Royal Sutton achieved the maximum number of points available in this competition – one of only two clubs to do so.
There are a number of performances that are particularly worthy of note:
Jasmine Walker threw a PB (34.11) in the U 15 girls javelin, breaking the club record and re affirming her first place in the Power of Ten rankings in the West Midlands and moving her to 25th in the UK. Jasmine is to represent the West Midlands in the English Schools competition.
Meghan Sharman achieved new PBs and first place in both the u 15 girls discus (18.29) and hammer (24.19). Meghan is now ranked 13th in the discus and 6th in the hammer in the West Midlands.
Elsa Buchanan PB and first place in the u 13 girls javelin (22.63) sees her ranked 2nd in the West Midlands.
Maddie Hammond is now ranked 3rd in the West Midlands following her win and new PB set in the 1200 m(4.00.2). Maddie also holds first place rankings in the 600 and 800 metres; 3rd in the 200 m; 5th in the 1500 m and 10th in the 150 m not to mention a number of club records.
James Ward extended his PB by 9 metres in the u 15 boys hammer (34.48) which sees him ranked 4th in the West Midlands in this event. James is also ranked 8th in the discus.
One more competition to go at Dudley and Stourbridge on Saturday 16th July. Another full team turn out is needed to maintain the teams 1st place in the league overall.
Laura Whittle selected to run for GB at European Champs
Congratulations to Laura Whittle who has been selected to run for GB in the 5000m at the European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam in July. Laura has had a great start to the season running a PB of 15.08 in the 5000m and claiming a bronze medal last weekend at the British Championships. Further details are in the British Athletics announcement below.

Big thank you to Fiona Smith for her efforts as Joint Team Manager, and thanks to all the parents who went the extra mile to make sure everyone made it to the stadium by 4pm. I hope you all enjoyed seeing your kids perform on the big stage. We are very lucky at RSC to have such a great bunch of youngsters who never let us down. It’s always a pleasure to take them to events as they are such good company.
