Laura Whittle has put in a couple of great runs on the track during the last week. Last Tuesday she ran 8.57 in a 3000m race at the Trafford Grand Prix. This puts her into 6th place in the Power of Ten rankings for the 3000m. At the weekend she raced in the Scottish Athletics Championships and finished 4th in the 1500m in a time of 4.19.
Elsewhere Simon Corker recorded a 3rd place finish in the Moreton Morrell 10k.
WOW, Keep your fingers crossed but following everyones great performances yesterday the provisional results show we finished the meeting in second place which puts us in second place in the League and will give us promotion as long as we do not get any crazy dqs. Super Duper. The results are attached below and show that in yesterdays meeting the Men finished in second place and the Women in sixth place which put us into second place on the combined scores. The final League position after the 4 meetings becomes.

What a day for Nick Pryce setting new club records in the 400m (his first 400m of the year) with 48.7 (half second improvement on his own record) and the 100m with a 10.7. Both of these are also League Divisional records. He then went on to anchor both the 4x100m and the 4x400m relay teams to victory. In the 4x100m he teamed up with Kane, Luke F and Nick M and they got the closest I have seen to the club record for many years which was set back in 1987 when I was in the team.as a pretty 43 year old. In the 4x400m it was Stuart, Fred and Kieran who ran with him and once again got very close to the club record set back in 1989. Well done guys.
Andrea also set a new W35 record in the 3000m with 10.51.1.to break Yvonne Parkers record set back in 2000 and Fiona Smith broke her own W50 Hammer record with 23.71m. Well done Andrea and Fiona.
There were very many excellent performances, far too many to mention, but just a few interesting statistics about three performances. Kevins Discus throw of 48.79m is the second best M45 throw in the UK and he already has the best. Robs 1500m time of 4.18.3 puts him into second place in the M50 British rankings and he had a very sore Achilles. The 100m time of 13.2 in the 100m puts Fiona Ellis into 5th place in the W35 British rankings.

They had nine first places from the eleven events contested. Beryl Chapman set a W80 club record in the 2000m Walk with a time of 18.06.7. Well done Beryl.
It was great to see us fielding a womens 4x100m relay team and see Sharon Ralph back to help the team take first place.
Andrea Deathridge had a couple of fine runs in the 800m and 3000m and is getting close to the W35 club records.
Lorna Foster continued her unbeaten run in the throws with first places in the shot, discuss and javelin.
Fleur O’Brien had fine victories in the W60 shot and Long jump, and both Sandra and Fiona Ellis looked majestic in winning their 200m races.
In his first meeting for the club, Ed Saunders won the M40 Pole Vault and took fourth place in the Long Jump. A big welcome to Ed.
Over the weekend of the 27/28th July, Vici Richardson took part in the Adidas Thunder Run at Catton Park,Derbyshire.
The event is staged over 24hrs and involves running as many laps of the 10k trail course as possible.
Vici took part with a friend as a team of two and together they endured the blazing heat in the afternoon followed by relentless torrential rain throughout the night,
which made running in the dark all the more challenging.
By the end of the race at midday on Sunday they’d managed a staggering 9 laps each totalling 180k (111.8 miles!).

A number of athletes were in action this week at various open meetings.
Nick Pryce’s rich vein of form continued, winning the 200m Open at Loughborough in a time of 21’50, beating in the process two runners who achieved low 21′ races this season. Well done Nick.
At Cheltenham Open, Charmaine Riley finished 2nd in a closely contended 200m in a time of 27’7, with Joella Spencer finishing 3rd in 28’5.
The final race of the day saw three clubs runners contest a 17-strong 800m field, with Stuart McCaw, Paul Davey and Fred Tremblay all taking part.
It was great news for Stuart McCaw, who at only 20 years of age, ran for the first time under 2 minutes, finishing 4th in a time of 1’59.2. Well done Stuart.
Fred Tremblay improved on his season’s best, finishing 3rd in 1’58.7.
Paul Davey finished in a sub 2’10 time in a race that was part of a heavy-load weekly training regime.

RSCAC was on the athletics map again this week-end with great performances all-round.
Katie Ingle competed in her first ever European competition over the week-end making it to the final of the U23 European Championships 3000m steeple in Rieti, Italy.

Nick Price dominated an international class 200m field at the Birmingham Games on saturday (Alexander Stadium),
winning in a new PB of 21.38, smashing his own Senior Mens club record of 21.81.
In the process he also beat Joshua Ross (Australia’s No 1), and Richard Strachan who regularly features on the british 4x400m relay teams at international level.

In London, 7 club athletes had the chance to compete against Paula Radcliffe at the Olympic Park run.
They had to enter a ballot to take part in the five-mile (8,047m), 12,500 runners strong, National Lottery Anniversary Run around the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Olympic cyclist Victoria Pendleton was also taking part while fellow cyclist Sir Chris Hoy was the official starter of the race.
There were about 30,000 spectators.
Vikram Balachandar was first home is a fast time of 29:15 followed by Colin McAuley in 30:57. Mark Rickards came home in a fantastic PB time of 31:21. All three beat world champion marathoner Paula Radcliffe to the line – not something you get to do every weekend! Vici Richardson, Lucy Jennings, Emma Neachell and Katie Jennings also competed in the event.

Finally, Simon Ralph showed he is on his way to returning to top form with a sub 40min 10k result in a relay leg of the City of Birmingham 2013 Triatlon, Sunday at Sutton Park.

Katie Ingle ran a personal best of 10.20 to qualify for the final of the 3000m steeplechase at the European Junior Championships today. The final takes place on Saturday. Good luck Katie!
The U13s and U15s travelled to Banbury for a YDL fixture on Saturday. There were wins for Ben Horton, Georgia Platt, Maisie Cain, Jasmin Skipp and Jessica Tarr and great performances by everyone else. The results are available here.
Our distance runners were out in force at the Worcester Pitchcroft 10k. In scorching hot conditions Ollie Harradence had a great run to finish 2nd. We had another 6 runners in the top 20 – Dave Long (6th), Paul Terleski (9th), Paul Davey (11th), Russell Simpson (12th), Colin McAuley (14th) and Mark Rickards (17th and a PB). Vici Richardson finished 79th.
A fantastic run by Laura Whittle in the British Championships at the Alexander Stadium. She finished 2nd behind Stephanie Twell in a time of 16.00. Results available here.
Nicholas Pryce was also in action on Friday night. He ran 10.9 in a heat won by Harry Aikines-Aryeetey.
The provisional results are now available for the third Midland Athletics League fixture (click here) and they show that Royal Sutton recorded a win in an incredibly close match.
Everyone competed superbly in blistering hot temperatures. Highlights included Lorna Foster setting a new W50 club record in the shot putt of 8.63m (4kg shot), and Rob Andrew (on his first run for the club) getting into the top 3 in the British rankings with his time of 4.20.9 in the 1500m. Nicholas Pryce was just one tenth of a second off his club records in the 100m and 200m, which shows he is in great form ahead of the UK Trials this weekend. Also, the women’s 4x100m team of Joella, Charmaine, Fiona and Kanisha came close to the club record which was set over 30 years ago.
