Royal Sutton’s young athletes finished the cross country league season in style winning a fantastic haul of medals at the final match of the season at Perry Park. The U17 women got the club off to a great start with Georgia Curry finishing 3rd in the first race of the day, with the team also finishing 3rd, with Lois West and Grace Stirland completing the scoring. The strong performances across the season meant both Georgia and the team claimed silver medals.

The U11 boys were next up, with the team finishing 2nd on the day with George Hope being the top runner in 6th place. Ben Stewart and Tom Smith both recorded top 20 finishes, whilst Pierce Odwyer and Jacob Thomas completed the scorers. The team was second also for the season and so returned back to Wyndley with team silver.

There were more strong performances by the U17 men, with Alex Jones finishing 6th and the team finishing 3rd on the day. Euan Cox (12th) and Alex Blackham (18th) both ran well and will be useful additions to the senior team next year. Alex Jones was ranked 4th in this age group for the season.

The U11 girls narrowly missed out on a team medal finishing 4th. There were strong individual performances on the day, with Hope Stirland finishing in 3rd position, and great support from Sian Duval, Mante Nausedaite, Amaya Tisdale and Martha Wood to complete the scoring 5. Hope also won the bronze medal for her performances across the season.

For the U15 boys the star performance came from Lewis Duval who finished 10th, with the team finishing in 8th position. There was good support in particular from Ben Horton and Ben White.

The U13 girls also were also in the medals with great teamwork resulting in a 3rd place finish on the day and bronze medals for the season. Ella Semple was the first runner home for the club on Sunday in 18th place, whilst there was great packing from Charlotte Hey, Elsa Buchanan, Lucy Semple and Lucy Corker.

The U13 boys also ran well with Will Cowley the first runner in 44th to bring the team home 8th out of 19 clubs.

The final race featured the U15 girls. Ellen Humpherston gave the top performance finishing 18th with the girls finishing 6th for the season.

Well done to our senior XC team who won promotion back to Division 1 following a fantastic win in the final match of the season at Gloucester today. We packed our 6 1st team scorers into the top 39 places with Shaun Evans winning his second race of the season, Ollie Haradence 10th, Nick Corker 11th, Tom Chew 12th, Jerome Austin 28th and Dave Long 39th. Our other six runners battled manfully in tough conditions meaning the B team finished 3rd – well done Simon Corker, Fred Tremblay, Steve Marklew, Paul Terleski, Steve Semple and Matt Powell. This means that overall we finished in 2nd place for the season behind Cannock & Staffs. Well done to everyone who has competed this season. Special mention to 4 runners who have been the core of the team:
Shaun Evans, who won the last two races and was the joint top individual runner for the season and top junior.
There were some great performances at the Midland Championship at the weekend. Here’s Margaret’s report:

Winter arrived with a vengeance yesterday as our junior athletes travelled to the notorious mud of Burbage Common for their fourth league match of the season. There was some fantastic brave running by our athletes in truly awful conditions of mud, snow and deep slush. Overall the team finished third out of 19 clubs and remain in fourth place in the league. Well done to everyone who took part – you truly did the club proud!

There’s been lots of action involving RSCAC athletes over the past couple of the weeks on the country, road, hills and indoors.
Well done to all our athletes who competed at Wolverhampton last weekend. The team finished 5th on the day and is 5th overall in the league after two races out of 20 competing clubs. Fantastic effort everyone!
