Matthew Pennant – UK Under 13 Boys Speed Bounce Champion!

Well done to Chrissie, Hannah, Kane and Matthew, who all performed superbly at the UK Sportshall Final which was held at the NEC yesterday.  Chrissie and Hannah both got PBs. Hannah (Under 15 age group) was 5th= in the Vertical Jump and 8th= in the Speed Bounce.  Bearing in mind that this makes her 5th and 8th IN THE UK, that’s most impressive.  Similarly, Chrissie finished 5th in the Under 13 shot.  Both Kane and Matthew came home with gold medals; Kane for his cracking leg in the Under 15 4 x 2 lap relay and Matthew for winning the Under 13 Vertical Jump with a massive leap of 71cm.  Well done to all 4 athletes. The Birmingham teams finished well overall; with the Under 13 Girls coming 4th, the Under 13 Boys coming 2nd, the Under 15 Girls were 2nd and the Under 15 Boys came 5th in a very competitive competition.

Regional Sportshall Final

Well done to Chrissie, Hannah L, Kane H and Matthew P who all represented Birmingham in the Regional Sportshall Final in Stoke on Sunday.  All 4 athletes came home with at least one medal and now progress through to the National Final.  (Whoop!)  Chrissie won the shot putt.  Matthew was 2nd in the vertical jump and the 4 lap run.  Hannah and Kane both did 3 events as part of the Under 15 ‘All Rounder’. Hannah was 2nd equal in the 4 lap and 4th equal overall.  Kane won the 2 lap and standing long jump and finished 5th equal overall after his 8th place in the speed bounce.  All athletes also had successes in relays.  Well done to all four athletes, who were members of the winning Birmingham team.   Best of luck for the next round – do Sutton proud!  For all the results, visit this link: http://www.sportshall.org/VTL/ASUK_2012.aspx

Birmingham Games – 4/5 February

Well done to everyone who performed at the B’ham games at the NIA this weekend. Day 1 results are now available here. I’m sure it won’t be long before todays are up too. There was a notable win for Charlotte Newman in the 200m – her 1st ever indoor competition. Stefan flew as he always does around the 200m and the 60m. As did Luke Flemming in the 200m. Adam Barnes ran against Richard Buck, which is quite a claim, and I ran alongside an Olympic Champion! Can you believe it, I raced Christine Ohuruogu in the 60m. She came third…..I came last. But I enjoyed it, which is the main thing. I also got 3 no jumps in my long jump (all over 5m though, which is quite a positive). So all in all a good day! I wasn’t there today, but I know there were more Sutton athletes there again. Hopefully there have been even more good performances.

Next week it’s the Midlands indoor. Good luck to anyone who is competing. I’m leaving that one to the pros!

Update

Day 2 results are now available here with Nicholas Pryce and Kathryn Smith both in action.
