Results

There were some outstanding performances by RSC athletes at the weekend. At the WM Schools Championships the top performance came from Joe Martin who won the Inter Boys 800m in a time of 2.01.1. This time knocks an amazing 5 seconds off the club record for the age group (and was set in breezy conditions)! There were also great performances by Jasmine Walker and Charlotte Hey who won the javelin and 1500m respectively.

At the Midland T&F Championships the highlight came from Nicholas Pryce who won a silver medal in the 400m. There were other great performances from Kane Howitt (5^th in the 200m), Tom Chew (3^rd in the 3000m steeplechase), Chrissie Prince (4^th in the discus and 7^th in the Hammer) and Fred Tremblay (7^th in the 800m).

Katie Ingle showed she is returning to her best form with a great run at the Welsh Championships. Competing as a guest she won the 3000m steeplechase in a time of 10.22.

On the roads recent recruit Sam Crawford was 4^th at the Aldridge 10k – Great running Sam!

The T&F club squad put in a battling performance on Sunday, at the Midlands T&F meeting in Coventry.

We finally finished in 5th place with our very small team which had a super team spirit..

There were 14 events in which we had no athletes competing, but all of those who were able to make it put in some great performances resulting in twelve first places, nine second places and three third places.

Some world class results from our Masters athletes, over the week-end at the Midland Masters Champs, despite the mixed weather.

Well done to Megan McBrien who was first women home at the Fun Run on Sunday. She becomes the second member of the family to win the race with Kate winning a couple of years ago.

Ollie Harradence continued his great form finishing second in the men’s race. Lots of other great performances from the senior squad. Based on a quick scan of the Strava/Facebook Mark Rickards, Paul Terleski, Russell Simpson, Paul Baker, Sam Crawford, Ollie Sheppard, Dean Lucas were all back within the hour and there were also great runs by Richard Lewis, Daniel Musson and Trevor Lewis. Well done to everyone else who took part from the club. Full results will be in the Observer.

On a glorious Saturday 27th May at York Athletics Club Royal Sutton Coldfield Athletics Club athlete Muninder Singh Hayer made his debut over 800 metres in the RR1 race running category at the CP Sport Grand Prix meeting. Muninder had been training hard for this new distance since breaking the 200 metre World Record in Yeovil at the beginning of April and training had been going well. In the event Muninder set a new World Record of 4.35.5 seconds Knocking a massive 19.87 seconds off the previous World Record of 4.55.37 seconds. Coach Graham Felton said this was truly an amazing performance and no doubt the shockwaves will by now have reached Copenhagen where Muninder will de competing in the World Championships in early July. With 2 World Records already in the bag this year the aim is to now bring back the Gold Medals, and after a performance like this and still 6 weeks training to go it augers well.

It was a golden day for many of the Royal Sutton Coldfield athletes who attended the Warwickshire County Track and Field Championships at Nuneaton.

Fifteen County titles were won by Sutton athletes last weekend including one in the Staffordshire Championships. The haul of medals included fifteen golds, two silvers and two bronzes. Two of the throwers attained English Schools’ qualifying distances, notably Megan Sharman with a personal best of 36.90m in the Hammer and Jasmine Walker who threw 34.97m in the javelin, breaking the County Championship record by over 6 metres. The fact that the club is becoming much stronger in the throwing competitions was evidenced by gold medals for under-13 Ethan Cook in the discus and for under-17 James Ward who won double gold in the discus and hammer. In addition, Elsa Buchanan threw a personal best of 21.36m in the javelin. In the senior women, Chrissie Prince remarkably won triple silver medals in the hammer, shot and discus with Sheri Smart gaining bronze in the discus.

The sprints were dominated by two impressive athletes. Up and coming under-13 star Isobel Male blew away the opposition in the 100m (13.04s) and the 200m (26.85s) and the senior men’s events were dominated by Kane Howitt who won the sprint double with the stunning times of 10.72s and 21.48s in the 100m and 200m respectively. Not to be outdone, Shem Nelson took the 400m in a time of 52.26s. There was also a personal best of 11.7s for under-17 Cameron Harris in the 100m.

Under-13 girl Sian Duval became the 800m Staffordshire champion by beating off some strong opposition with a very respectable 2m-33.7s. Her brother under-17 Lewis Duval also ran a personal best time of 4m-31.3s in the 1500m. Rising star Charlotte Prince won the 800m in a time of 2m-39.3s to become Warwickshire champion and she also took silver with a strong race in the 1500m event. Under-15 Charlotte Hey won gold in a blistering 1500m race against very strong opposition in a personal best time of 4m-57.2s. On the previous day Charlotte also took bronze with a personal best of 2m-26.4s plus she achieved personal bests in the javelin and long jump. In the U20 men’s 3000m steeplechase, there was a clear victory for Alex Blackham with a time of 10m-50.6s. Other notable performances came from Frederic Tremblay, 4th in the senior men’s 800m, and Tom Chew, also 4^th in the 1500m,  running a Personal Best in the process.

Other personal bests were achieved by Caitlin White (1500m), Martha Wood (800m), Lucy Carey (1500m), Zara Buchanan (1500m) and Hannah Smith in the hammer. The U11 boy’s Quadkids competition was dominated by winner Harrison North. His performances included a club record of 29.12m in the ‘Howler’ throw and a time of 10.8s in the 75m.
