Fiona and myself have just attended a coaching conference with the head coaches of the USA Track and Field team (Amy Deem and Andrew Valmon). 110m hurdler and world leader this year, Aries Merritt was also on the panel; telling us some of the secrets as to why he is so good. It was an insightful evening. Thanks to the organisers and the Americans for giving up their time. I’ll also now be cheering on Aries as well as team GB!
Well done to Chrissie, Hannah L, Kane H and Matthew P who all represented Birmingham in the Regional Sportshall Final in Stoke on Sunday. All 4 athletes came home with at least one medal and now progress through to the National Final. (Whoop!) Chrissie won the shot putt. Matthew was 2nd in the vertical jump and the 4 lap run. Hannah and Kane both did 3 events as part of the Under 15 ‘All Rounder’. Hannah was 2nd equal in the 4 lap and 4th equal overall. Kane won the 2 lap and standing long jump and finished 5th equal overall after his 8th place in the speed bounce. All athletes also had successes in relays. Well done to all four athletes, who were members of the winning Birmingham team. Best of luck for the next round – do Sutton proud!
