Joe Cox

Joe Cox

The club is sad to announce the passing of Joe Cox on the eve of his 81st birthday on 26th March 2024.

Joe was a popular Irishman and represented the club in cross country in the Birmingham and District league events together with representing the club in both Warwickshire and Midlands championships.

In the summer he took part in various road relay events together with various events in the track and field leagues that the club was attached to.

A talented runner, it was always a pleasure to run with him for he was always telling jokes and funny stories. He always had a cheeky glint in his eye, a devilish good habit of spurring and encouraging you on and a real asset to the club.

As a result of taking his wife (Les, also a club member) away they moved to a delightful part of the world in Dorset where they spent many happy days together in the town of Dorchester.

In a fitting tribute to RSCAC, a picture of Joe competing in the road relay championship was put by the side of his coffin at the service and his club vest was put in his coffin. There was a good number of fellow club members in attendance at the church service.

RIP Joe

WMYACCL Cross Country, Race 3, Warley Woods, 03/12/2023

In very testing conditions, as the current wintry weather refused to release its chilly grip, our young athletes performed superbly at the 3rd set of races in the West Midlands Young Athletes Cross Country League held at Warley Woods in Smethwick. Again, a big thank you not only to our heroes, but also to the coaches and parents, without whom such success would be impossible.

Let’s highlight the best bits!

Worthy of special mention are the following:

In the U11 girls, Isabel Vickery (5th); Emilia Dudley (9th); Clara Willetts (10th) and Isla Daly (11th).

The U11 girls team are currently 1st out of 22 teams by an impressive 90 points.

In the U11 boys, Sam Howell (8th);  Seb Lees (11th); and Tommy Seager (12th).

The U11 boys team are currently 1st out of 19 teams by an equally impressive 64 points.

In the U13 boys, Miren Randhawa (7th); Oskar Alsop (9th); Yuvan Sidhu (10th) Jack Radnor (12th); George Harradence (15th) and Hakam Allouh (16th)

6 athletes in the top 16 contributed significantly to extending the team’s 1st position out of 20 teams to a lead of a massive 220 points.

AND…

The headline news is that after 3 out of 5 fixtures, the club are overall 2nd out of 22 teams. This is a fantastic achievement. This is down the magnificent effort from EVERY SINGLE ONE of our athletes. They ALL made a contribution and we applaud them for it.
