Royal Sutton Lower YDL team substantially increase lead over Tamworth
The lower YDL team travelled to Corby on Sunday with everything to play for. At the conclusion of the second meeting at Solihull in May, there were only 2.5 points between second place Royal Sutton and third place Tamworth. At Corby, Royal Sutton Athletes increased this margin by an amazing 59 points! Coaches and parents on the day, commented on the amount of effort that every athlete put into their event and the result is testament to all the hard work. Well done everyone!
A number of athletes secured new personal best performances. Of particular note is the performance of Sam Grimshaw, who improved his performance in the 300 m, shot and discus. In his first season with the club, Sam has achieved Power of Ten rankings in 5 events.
There were victories in both u13 1200 metre races for Maddie Hammond and Holly Tyson and for Elsa Buchanan and Freya Liddington in long jump. Emily Sambrook achieved first place and a new PB in the shot.
Rachael White achieved a new PB and a win in the u15 1500 m. Regan Keating and Jenny Hopkinson achieved new PBs in the discus, gaining valuable points for the team.
Ryan Humphreys and Luke Stoddart improved their performance in the u15 80 m hurdles and Ryan again achieved first place in high jump. James Ward continues to perform well with a win in both the discus and the hammer. The boys u15 4 x100 relay team consisting of Cameron Harris, Ben White, Aidan Bishop and Sam Grimshaw stormed to victory.
The final meeting is at Tamworth on Saturday 18th July. Make a note in your diary!

Heart of England at Corby
Another good day for RSCAC young athletes at Corby yesterday. There were so many good performances. Nearly every athlete got at least one pb! Results aren’t yet published so I will keep you posted….I predict third place. Well done everyone.
Lower Age YDL Team maintain second place in League
On Saturday 30th May, the under 13 and under 15 team travelled to Solihull to compete in a league where the standards are extremely high. The team performed well and finished the competition in third place behind two very strong Midlands clubs, Solihull and Small Heath and Tamworth. More importantly, the team has maintained second place in the league overall by a whisker.
In fine form, a number of the athletes who competed achieved new PB’s. A special mention for Ryan Humphreys, who in his first competition for the club achieved a first place in the hurdles B race and high jump. Daniel Olatundun came first in the 100m A race and a close second in the 200m. Ben White achieved first place in the 300 m and 800 m B races. James Ward won the discus by an impressive margin.
For the girls team, Maddie Hammond and Ellen Humpherston stormed home to win the 1200 m and 1500 m races.
The team was depleted due to the school holiday, the Sutton Fun Run and the Aston Villa Cup final! Two athletes deserve a special mention as they truly stepped out of their comfort zone to compete in 4 individual events each – Maddie Hammond and Freya Liddington.
Can all athletes please do their best to ensure the team continues to do well by making themselves available for the next competition on Sunday 21st June at Corby.
