Janice Pryce and Donald Brown win medals at the European Masters

Hi Everyone, Just seen the results of the W55 Triple Jump at the European Masters Indoors in Madrid and am delighted to report that Janice Pryce (in her last year in this age group ) took the silver medal with a jump of 9.65m .This is a new British Indoor record beating the old record of 9.43m set by Teresa Eades in 2014 and of course this is a new Club record.Janice now holds both  the British outdoors record (9.75m) and the Indoors record.

On the last day Champs Donald Brown, running the lead off leg for the Great Britain M50 4x200m relay team, came away with a bronze medal when taking third place behind Italy and France. The time set by Italy was a new European record. Earlier in the week Donald Brown made it through to the semi finals of the 60m and 60m Hurdles but just missed out on a place in both Finals. His 60m Hurdles meeting record set in Turin in 2015 still remains as the meeting record.

Quentin Anthony breaks senior triple jump record!!!

A message from John Topliss:
Hi Everyone, Just received the news that Quentin Anthony (competing in his first meeting for the club) has just set a Club record in the Senior Mens Triple Jump at the Midland Counties Open at the HPC at Alexander Stadium. He jumped 13.33m ,which is also a PB , to beat Donald Browns previous record of 13.22m set 30 years ago in 1988.
Both Quentin and Donald are coached by Joe Caines and I am sure Janice Pryce, also part of  Joe’s squad and holder of several  British Masters Triple Jump records , will be helping Quentin as well. Well done Quentin.

West Midlands Young Athletes League – 11 Feb

Royal Sutton Coldfield AC’s young athletes finished the cross county league season in style with some fine performances in the final fixture at Aldersley Stadium, Wolverhampton on Sunday. In cold and blustery conditions the young athletes raced superbly to win a number of individual and team medals. Overall the club finished 4th on the day out of the 20 best clubs in the region. This also meant a 4th place finish for the season – a great team effort.

The U13 girls topped off a fine season by winning silver medals with Sian Duval finishing 5th on the day, Mante Nausedaite 7th, Charlotte Prince 9th, Charlotte Crees 13th and Bethan Homer 25th. Sian Duval also picked up an individual medal as the 4th highest placed athlete for the season.

There were further medals for the U13 boys who won bronze for the season. Great packing from Ethan Patel (13th), George Hope (16th), Jack Wakefield (17th), Ethan Cook (19th) and George O’Connor (20th) meant the team actually won the race on the day, but the result was not quite enough to overhaul Rugby & Northampton and Birchfield who claimed the top two spots.

The U15 girls ran superbly to secure silver medals in a fiercely contested age group. Strong running from Lucy Carey, Charlotte Hey, Lucy Corker, Lucia Cantone and Libby Turner meant the team was able to hold off a challenge from Rugby & Northampton and Stratford to maintain second position.

IMG_3yu6eqThe U15 boys team of Jacob Higgins, Thomas Lloyd and James Moran finished 8th.

The U11 boys and U11 girls narrowly missed out on medals with both teams finishing 4th for the season. On the day Will Stead was first home for the U11 boys in 18th place with great support from Zak Tisdale, Harvey Gillett, Adam Wilkinson and Harrison North. Emily Symes was first home for the U11 girls, with Isabel Lloyd, Phoebe Allen, Evie Sandland and Lucy Rigby completing the counters.

There was a great run by Ellen Humpherston who finished 8th in the U17 women’s race. The other counters were Caitlin O’Connor, Kara Turnham and Lucy Ollerenshaw. For the U17 men Ben Horton was first home in 29th place.

Midland XC Championships

A number of our top athletes braved the rain to race at a muddy Wollaton Park at the weekend. The top performances came from Georgia Curry who finished 3rd in the U20W race and Shaun Evans who was 4th in the U20M race. Our U13 girls were our highest placed team finishing in 5th place. Well done to everyone who raced.

Fantastic medal haul for Royal Sutton at the County Championships

 

Royal Sutton Coldfield Athletics Club’s athletes put in great performances at the XC County Championships on Saturday, winning a fantastic haul of individual and team medals. The club has three new County Champions, with Sian Duval (U13G) and Lewis Duval (U17M) winning their races at the Staffordshire Championships at Sandwell Valley, whilst Ollie Harradence won the Men’s Masters title at the Warwickshire Championships at Warley Woods.

There was a fantastic performance by the U13 girls with Mante Nausedaite finishing 2nd, Martha Wood 3rd and Charlotte Prince 5th to win the team race by a large margin. Great support from Bethan Homer (6th), Charlotte Crees (8th) and Zara Buchanan (10th) meant that the club’s B team finished ahead of the 2nd place club in the competition. The U13 boys won silver medals with George Hope finishing 5th, Ethan Patel 6th and Jack Wakefield 8th. George O’Connor was 6th in the U13 boys race at Staffordshire and will hope to earn a county vest as a reward for his fine run.
There was a bronze medal for the U13 girls team with Charlotte Hey finishing 5th, Lucy Carey 7th and Lucy Corker 12th. Ellen Humpherston won silver with a second place finish for the U17 women whilst Caitlin White finished 8th. Georgia Curry won silver in the U20 women’s race. There were many other great individual performances and a number of athletes will be selected to represent their counties at the Inter County Championships in March.

20171216_101224Well done to all our athletes, parents and helpers who braved the cold and ice today in Cannock Chase. All our young runners looked in great shape for the County Champs in a couple of weeks and thoroughly deserved the big pub lunch. Massive thanks to Brian and Martin for organising.

With the exception of Martin Phipps and Brian Higson’s groups, training has been cancelled tonight. This is due to the icy conditions at and around Wyndley. Martin and Brian’s groups still plan to train as usual.
