Kane Howitt and Isabel Male started 2018 with some sparkling performances on Saturday in the 60m at the Midland Counties Indoor Meeting.
There are several indoor competitions taking place in February and March that any club athlete can enter if they’re the correct age. Indoor competitions are a great way to get officially timed races & measured distances in the winter.

For those who missed training before Christmas due to other commitments:
Sprint group are training 6pm – 8pm tonight and 6pm – 8pm next Tuesday and Thursday. All three sessions are at the track.
Martin’s, Simon’s and Brian’s groups are training 10am – 11.30am next Tuesday and Thursday.
For all other groups, if you’re not sure on training times, please contact your coach directly.
Our thanks go to Great Midlands Fun Run, who have gifted the club £100. This will go towards new equipment for the summer Track and Field season.
With the exception of Martin Phipps and Brian Higson’s groups, training has been cancelled tonight. This is due to the icy conditions at and around Wyndley. Martin and Brian’s groups still plan to train as usual.
Any questions please speak to your coach.
We have made the decision that due to the weather there will be no training tomorrow night. Stay safe in the warm.
Royal Sutton Coldfield Athletics Club has been given a £500 grant courtesy of the Skipton Grassroots Giving Team.
This money will be used to buy new equipment for the club’s weekly taster sessions for 7 to 9 year olds, so that the club can offer a greater selection of activities that will further develop each child’s repertoire of skills.
Items such as mini hurdles, long and triple jump mats, weighted balls, hoops and beanbags will be bought with the money.
Royal Sutton Coldfield Athletics Club have been running weekly taster sessions for 7 -9 year olds in preparation for them competing for the club in cross-country and track and field events when they reach 9 years old.
Such is the interest in these one-hour sessions that there is a waiting list to join in excess of 100 youngsters!
Even at the tender age of 7, the children are taught the fundamentals of running, jumping and throwing, along with social skills, etiquette and discipline. Through listening to the advice of the club’s volunteer coaches, along with practising week on week, all of the youngsters improve. Many become extremely good athletes.
After attending this taster group, when they turn 9, they transition much better into the main athletics club due to their increased fitness and skill levels.
From grassroots to Olympic standard, the club have been successful in guiding youngsters to reach their pinnacle in this sport. Many youngsters continue their membership with the club and compete for their school, club, university or district, with some competing in regional or national championships before going on to represent their country.

Tuesday Sportshall sessions at John Wilmott have finished until the New Year. The athletes who were attending these sessions need to go to the track instead on Tuesdays in December please, 6 – 8pm.
The remaining sessions at John Wilmott are: 9th January, 16th January and 23rd January, 6 – 7.30pm.
There will be no jumps and hurdles tomorrow. Sorry for any inconvenience. Enjoy your night off!
