Midland Veterans T&F League – 1 August

The results of the meeting of 1 August are now available. Eight new club records were set. Well done to everyone. The new club records were:

  • Gordon Chapman – M80 2K Walk 15.44.0
  • Graham Felton – M60 Shot ( 7.26Kg) 8.68m
  • David Price – M70 Javelin (700g) 29.73m
  • Fleur O’Brien – W60 800m 3.28.4, Long Jump 2.12m
  • Maureen Lewington – W65 Javelin 17.03m, Discus 16.53m, Shot (3Kg) 7.19m
The full results are available here:
This was probably Maureen’s last competition as she will be moving to Scotland at the end of the month. Maureen, who went to three Olympics (1964, 1968 and 1972), has been a great servant to the club since joining as a Master/Veteran, winning many medals in the sprints whilst representing GB and RSCAC at World and European Masters Championships.  She will be sorely missed.  We wish her and Peter a wonderful time in Scotland.

British Masters Track and Field Championships – 21/22 July

A British record and gold, silver and bronze medals for Royal Sutton athletes at the Britsh Masters Track and Field Championships at Derby last weekend.
Janice Pryce set a new British record of 9.92m in winning the W50 Triple Jump.  Janice has jumped further outdoors this year but with no wind gauge.
The good news is that there was a wind gauge at this event and the wind reading was minus 0.7m so the record stands.  She already holds the indoor record.
Other medals were won by Nick Corker, who won a silver medal in the M35 1500m with a personal best time of 4″13
and David Price, who won a bronze medal in the M70 javelin with a throw of 29m94.
The results are available here.  Well done to everyone who took part!

Aviva English Schools Championships – 6/7 July

1st placeCongratulations to Kate Ingle, who won the English Schools Championships with fantastic run in the 1500m steeplechase at Gateshead yesterday.  She won by a massive 10 second margin in a time of 4.54.36 (which is a new club record as well).

Well done also to Gabrielle Kinney, who finished 5th in the Senior Girls 800m and Elemena Saunders who ran in the Inter Girls 800m.

Midland Athletics League – 1 July

Royal Sutton AC’s senior team put on another fine display last Sunday, with victory in the 3rd match of the season.

The star performance on the day came from Kieran Smith who won the A events for the 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, high jump and 2000m steeplechase.  Nicholas Pryce continued his excellent season with commanding victories in the 100m and 400m A races, whilst Kevin Brown produced some outstanding displays in the field winning the A events for the hammer, shot putt and discus.  His discus throw of 52m broke the division record and means he is the top ranked discus thrower in the UK for his age group by a distance of over 10 metres.

In the women’s events Charmaine Riley maintained her unbeaten record in the league with victories in the 100m and 200m and Charlotte Last had a great victory in the pole vault, as did Rachel Smith in the high jump.

Other winners in the A events were Megan Evans (triple jump), Rebecca Robinson (800m), Fred Tremblay (800m) and Nick Corker (5000m).

Midland Veterans T&F League – 27 June

A small team travelled to Burton to compete in the 3rd Veterans T&F league match of the season.  There were some fantastic performances:
  • Janice Pryce leapt to exactly 10.00m in the W50 triple jump which would have been a new British record if a wind gauge had been available. Earlier on she had won the W40 100m and the W40 long jump.
  • Kevin Brown won the M35 Discus with a monumental throw of 51.08m to put him top of the British M45 rankings by a long way.
  • Graham Felton easily won the M60 100m and then set a new club record in the M60 Discus with a throw of 31.22m.  He also took second place in the M50 Shot.
  • Gordon and Beryl Chapman both won their age divisions in the 2000m walk with Gordon breaking his M80 club record by over 7 seconds.
  • Sandra McDonald sprinted away from the rest of the field to win the W50 100m.
  • Fleur O’Brien knocked more than a second of her W60 100m time and then set a new club record in the 400m before setting another PB in the Discus.
  • Nick Corker took the lead from the start in the M35 1500m and just kept increasing his lead with a superb piece of front running to record a great time of 4.14, which is also a PB in this age group.
Well done to everyone.  The final Veterans league meeting is on Wednesday 1st August at home so no excuses – lets have a great turnout!
