West Midlands Young Athletes XC – 17 November

U11 boysThere was some fantastic running by our young athletes in the second West Midlands Young Athletes XC fixture at Wolverhampton yesterday. In testing conditions the star performance came from Alex Stapleton who won the U11 boys race in style. He took the lead on the long hill and held off a spirited late surge from his rival to claim victory. He was followed home by Joseph Martin in 3rd place, with Daniel Olatundun also having a great run in 14th. Overall the U13 boys finished 2nd.

The U11 girls also packed well to secure a 2nd place team finish with Holly Tyson (4th), Lucia Cantone (9th), Lucy Corker (11th) and Tamsyn Booth (12th) all finishing in the top 20.

In the U13 boys race Lewis Duval was the 1st Royal Sutton runner home in 8th place, whilst in the U13 girls race the top performances came from Ellen Humpherston and Melissa Adkins who finished 10th and 12th respectively.

In the U15 girls race Georgia Curry ran superbly to finish 4th. Elsewhere, there we’re top 20 finishes for Shaun Evans, who was 13th in the U17 Men’s race and Sophia Karski, who was 14th in the U17 women’s race.

Overall, the strong showing by all our athletes resulted in Royal Sutton finishing 4th on the day out of the 19 clubs competing. After two races the club is now 3rd in the league, with the next race at Halesowen in early December. Let’s have another great performance then!

More results from the World Masters

More results from the World Masters this week where Donald Brown has been in action in the 200m and 100 hurdles. In the 200m Donald finished in 7th place in the final with a time of 24.74 (his semi-final time was a season’s best of 24.64). There was a massive field for this event – 10 heats, quarter finals, semi finals and the final (4 rounds in total)!

Donald also competed in the 100m hurdles where he secured the fastest time in the semi finals (the semis were the first time he had run a complete 100m hurdles this year due to injury). Unfortunately it wasn’t good news in the final where after a great start he hit the 4th hurdle hard and crashed out.

With a 5th place finish in the 100m, 7th in the 200m and a fast semi final time in the hurdles it shows Donald is returning to great form. And there may be still more to come in the relays. Well done Donald – we’re all proud of you!

Sportshall success

Last Friday (18th Oct) was the 1st Sporthall event of the year.  RSCAC did very well.  After the 1st meeting, the Under 11 girls are in 1st place, the Under 11 boys in 3rd, the Under 13 boys in joint 2nd and the Under 13 girls in 5th.  The Under 15s do not have team positions. It is all done on individual performance in 3 events. There were some good performances from all.

Check out the results: http://www.birminghamsportshall.com/Calendar.asp

The next Sportshall is Friday Nov 15th, 7.15 pm at Stockland Green Leisure Centre.

WE ARE ESPECIALLY SHORT OF UNDER 15 BOYS (School Year  9 and 10). So if you are a boy in School Year 9 and 10, please email rscac@hotmail.co.uk if you can offer to compete for your club.  It is a really fun competition where you do: a running event of about 150m or 300m; shot putt or speed bounce; and standing triple jump or long jump.  There are also relays.
