Laura Whittle 6th at Commonwealth Games !

Laura Whittle - CWGLaura Whittle had a storming last 400m to finish 6th at the Commonwealth Games 5K race in Glasgow, and be 2nd home for the home nations.

Running a fast but sensibly paced race for most of the race, Laura overtook all the runners immediately ahead of her in the last 800m, and ran her second ever fastest 5k in less than ideal conditions.

No doubt that the crowd in Hampden Park cheered Laura on for what was an amazing finish !

Well done Laura we are all proud of you !

Midland Vets League – 25 June

John Topliss reports:

Please find the provisional results of yesterdays meeting at Burton:

Midland Vets Burton – Men

Midland Vets Burton – Women

Although we had a very small team there were some excellent performances by our athletes resulting in three new club records. They are:
  • Fiona Smith W50 Hammer 3Kg 27.41m . This beats her own record of 17.16m from last year and adds to her recent record with the 4kg Hammer . By the way Fiona still holds the Under 15 100m record set in 1977.(12.9)
  • Donald Brown M50 Shot 6Kg 10.33m . The old record was set by Graham F in 2002 of 9.87m.This means Donald now holds 10 club records two of which were set in 1988. They are the Senior Mens Long Jump and Triple Jump.
  • Graham Felton M65 Discus 2Kg 19m something. Graham competed as a guest in the M35 event and the guest results have not yet been published. He won the M60 100m and so continues his unbeaten sprint wins from last year in the League, which he constantly reminds me about, although he is not as pretty as me..This means Graham still holds nine club records after having lost one to Donald but he is a team member of three relay records.
A special thanks to Ruth Dobbins (timekeeper) and Phil Pollock (Long Jump official) .
