Vets Cup Final – Sunday 30 August

Results of the Vets  C Cup Final held at Worcester on Sunday:
Midland Vets Cup Final 2015 MatchCv2

It was a great meeting, electronic timing, top announcing, great atmosphere with 20 teams competing .

All C Final races were combined with the B Final so all lanes occupied.

Great performances by our very small team .

It was thirty years ago that the Cup Finals were started and we have won the A Final 11 times ( more than any other club ) .
Lets hope next year we can put out stronger teams in the League and make it back to the A Final.

In the C Final the men were 2nd and the women were 3rd  and the combined team were 3rd.
The three club records were :
  • Sharon Ralph W35 200m Hurdles 33.20  breaking Sandra McDonalds record of 33.40 set in 1996.
Well done Sharon a great run only beaten by World Masters bronze medallist!Richard Henry
  • David Price .M75 Javelin (700g) 26.70m . A new record .
David competed in the M50 event. A round trip of about 300 miles for David to get to this meeting.

Richard Henry won both of his M35 100m and M40 200m races  beating all the B Final athletes and setting a seasons best in the 200m. Great runs by Richard !
Following his seasons best 800m run at Tipton on Saturday Rob Andrew ran seasons best in both the 200m and the 400m. He is flying at the moment. Well done Rob.

His Discus was also close to the M65 record.  We know you can get them Graham !
Lorna Foster set a seasons best with the 4K Hammer  and was very close to her W50  club record in the Shot.

New club record for Jasmine Walker at the Stoke Open

Stoke AC OpenBrian Higson reports on some great performances by our U13s at the Stoke AC Open:

“Jasmine Walker had a fantastic debut performance for RSC by winning the Under-13 girls’ javelin competition at the Stoke Athletic Club’s open meeting last Saturday. Her best throw of 27.06 metres not only broke the club’s long-standing record by over two metres, but also was the longest throw by an under-13 girl in the West Midlands this year. What is so remarkable is that Jasmine only took up javelin throwing four weeks ago and this was her first ever competition. There is plenty more to come!

Other successes at the Stoke meeting involving under-13 Royal Sutton athletes included Freya Liddington who won silver medals in the long jump (with a new PB of 4.40m) and the shot putt and Maddie Hammond with bronze medals in the 1200 metres and shot putt.”

Gold medal and world record for Muninder Singh Hayer

Muninder_and_GrahamMuninder_Gold_1 Graham Felton reports on a fantastic day for Muninder Singh Hayer at the CPISRA World Games in Nottingham:
“Muninder Singh Hayer yesterday won Gold at the CPISRA World Games in Nottingham. In addition he also set a new World Record (subject of course to ratification). Muninder is an F31 Seated Club Thrower and this was his first International Competition.
Muninder is part of a very successful England team competing at these games and in spite of his nerves, the wet weather, and having just 2 weeks to get used to his new throwing frame he rose magnificently to the occasion and realised the first of his ambitions.
He will have 3 more competitions this year before settling down to a hard winter training schedule, aimed at getting him to the level needed for selection for The Paralympic Games in Rio next year.
This Gold Medal is the first at International Level. No doubt there will be more to come as Muninder is still only 20 years old and only started training 18 months ago.”

Midland league – 9 August

IMG_6354Here’s John’s match report following a great day at Solihull on Sunday for our senior team:

Hi Everyone, Please find the provisional results of yesterdays meeting. RESULTS – MATCH 4  You will see we won the meeting by the smallest of margins so I am delighted that I was able to persuade several of you to fill in events where we had gaps.

If you remained to see the last event (the Mens 4x400m) I am sure you were enthralled by the running of the last leg by Nick Pryce. Wow!!! I cannot recall ever being more excited when watching an event in this League before. He made up a very large deficit going from 5th to 2nd and ran his leg in 47.0secs . I have never seen him so exhausted after a run. What a way to finish the League for this year.
Thanks to all your efforts – athletes, officials, coaches, parents and supporters. We have avoided relegation and discovered some new talent and I look forward to 2016 with excitement.
As a result of everyones great performances yesterday there were many pbs and six new club records. Wow!!!

  • Andrea Deathridge W40 1500m 5.15.0 beats Rita Hinds record of 5.17.9 set in 1986. Rita and I were part of the same training group.
  • Sharon Ralph W35 Triple Jump 8.01 beats Mel Woodward’s record of 7.29 set this year.
  • Sharon Ralph W35 High Jump 1.30 beats Sandra McDonald’s record of 1.28 set in 1997
