Midland T&F League – 18 May

Fred and Vikram in the 1500mThe senior athletics team kicked off the season on Saturday with a match at Leamington. Despite having a greatly depleted team there were some fantastic individual performances. Nicholas Pryce won the 100m and 200m in style, whilst there were also victories for Kevin Brown in the discus and Nick Corker in the 2000m steeplechase.

There were PBs for Luke Flemming (200m, 400m and long jump), Stuart McCaw (400m and high jump), Kane Howitt (triple jump), Paul Davey (800m), Vikram Balachandar (1500m), Russell Simpson (2000m steeplechase) and Janice Pryce (javelin). Meanwhile, John Topliss showed why he is known as the Tornado with a fantasic throw in the discus

For the women Megan, Charmaine, Janice and Fiona (with a cameo performance from Hannah Jennings) worked tirelessly, competing in multiple events to pick up lots of points.

The day ended with a fantastic victory for the men’s 4x400m team (Luke, Stuart, Fred and Nicholas).

BMAF Road Relays – 18 May

On Saturday the club competed in the British Masters Road Relays in Sutton Park. With resources stretched to the limit due to other athletes competing at the season’s first senior T&F match three teams were entered.

For many of the athletes this was the first competitive outing since running the London Marathon. Despite tired legs there were some good performances and a good club turnout. The women’s 35 team provided the highlight finishing 12th with Andrea Deathridge and Kate McBrien both running very fast legs (the team was in 2nd place for some of the race!). The men’s 45 team finished 19th, whilst the men’s 35 team was one runner short. Race photos are available on Bryan Dale’s website here. The leg times are provided below.

Katie Ingle selected to represent GB U20s

Congratulations to Katie Ingle who has been selected to represent GB U20s in the steeplechase at the prestigious Loughborough International Athletics match this Sunday.  This follows some fantastic performances by Katie on both the track and country. She will be competing against Loughborough Past and Present, England, Scotland, Wales and British Students. Further details on the event are available here.

Nicholas Pryce sets another club record!

Nicholas PryceCongratulations to Nicholas Pryce who set a new club record in the 200m with a time of 21.82 seconds at the BRAT open meeting last Wednesday. The record was set in cool and blustery conditions and shows that Nick is in great early season form. The full results are available here.

Midland Athletics League – 18 May

Royal Sutton Coldfield AC needs you!The first Midlands Athletics League fixture takes place on Saturday 18 May at Leamington. After clinching promotion last year we want to get off to a great start to 2013.

We are keen to get as many people involved as possible. If you can run, jump or throw we are keen to hear from you as simply by competing you will earn the club valuable points.

Shugborough Relays – 19 June

The Shugborough Relays will be taking place on the evening of Wednesday 19 June. The event takes place in beautiful parkland at the Shugborough Estate with each team comprising 4 legs of approximately 1.5 miles each. If you would like to compete please speak to Roy Humpherson.

Midland Veterans League – 1 May

Midland Veterans League - TelfordOur Veterans athletics team travelled to Telford last Wednesday for their 1st fixture of the season. There were a number of notable performances – in particular Gordon Price and Richard Lewis had great debuts, Donald Brown ran well on his return from injury and Bunny Kyd and Roy Humpherson picked up valuable points in the distance events. Janice Pryce and Graham Felton both won in the 100m and picked up lots of points in the field, whilst Fred Tremblay ran well in a quality 400m and finished the night with a great last leg in the 4x200m relay. London Marathon – 21 April

Congratulations to everyone who completed the London Marathon today. We had some fantastic performances – Ollie Harradence was the first Royal Sutton runner home in a super fast time of 2.34. Next back was Russell Simpson in a PB of 2.47, whilst we had three other runners break 3 hours (Steve Marklew, Chris Taylor and Colin McAuley).  Our first ladies home were Andrea Deathridge who ran 3.13 on her marathon debut and Kate McBrien who ran a PB of 3.13.

There were also PBs for Dave Bowen, Clive Hackforth, Mark Rickards, Matt Stenson and Sue Browne, with Sue knocking 14 minutes of her previous best!
