Telford Games – 14 September

Some excellent results by RSC athletes at the Telford Games. Kane Howitt put in some superb performances to take 1st the U17 Long Jump in a new meeting record of 6.17m and just missed out on the club record. He also took 2nd place in the 200m Final in 22.9 and 5th in the 100m Final. His training partner Will Bonner also was in great shape in setting a new PB in finishing 2nd in the U17 400m and 6th place in the 200m Final.

As if not to be outdone by Kane, his jumps coach Megan Evans took 1st in the Triple Jump and 2nd in the Long Jump.

Ethan Brough was also in fine form in taking 4th places in both the U15 100m and 200m, in new PB times for both events, and was well supported by Tom Brough in the 800m and Jake Underwood in the Triple Jump, Long Jump and Javelin. Mollie Darrock and Rachel Iliffe both  had fine runs in the U15 Girls 200m heats before taking 6th place in the Long Jump and 5th place in the High Jump respectively.
Connor Race took a splendid 5th place in the U11 Boys 60m Final while team mate Evan Pritchard narrowly missed out on the final when finishing third in his heat. David Iliffe also ran a quick time. Both Connor and Evan narrowly missed out on making the 150m Final but were in fine form, along with David, in the Long Jump.
In the U13 Girls Olivia May Street (100m, 200m) ,Maddy Underwood (Shot) and Beth Darrock (100m and Long Jump) all competed superbly

RSCAC Admin Race reports

Midland Road Relays – 21 September

Great running by Royal Sutton athletes at the Midland Road Relays today. The senior men finished in 19th place recording their best finish for at least 10 years. Ollie Harradence and Fred Tremblay provided the highlight, with both running massive PBs. The ‘B’ team was 40th and the ‘C’ team was 59th

The senior women finished 16th with Megan McBrien having a particularly strong run on the first leg.

In the junior races the U13 girls ‘A’ team finished 7th and ‘B’ team finished 11th, with Ellen Humpherson and Melissa Adkins running the fastest legs. The U15 girls finished 8th with Georgia Curry running the 12th fastest time of the day. Shaun Evans and Jerome Austin both ran well in an incomplete team for the U17 men.

British Masters Champs – 14/15 September

John Topliss reports on a successful weekend at the British Masters Championships:
“Royal Sutton athletes were among the medals at the British Masters Championships. Fiona Ellis took the silver medal in the W35 100m in a new club record time of 13.06 (Sandra set the old record of 13.1 in 1998). She followed this up with a bronze in the 200m with a seasons best of 27.85. (Incidentally Fiona holds the club Under 13 100m record of 12.8. I have told Fiona she will have to keep working hard if she wants to break Maureen’s W50 record of 13.0!!).
Lorna Foster was just 1cm away from the bronze medal in taking 4th place in the W50 Shot with a new club record of 9.63m.(Maureen set the old record in 1999). She was 5th in the Discus with a PB, 4th in the Javelin and 10th in the Hammer.
Jhalman Singh also set a new club record of 3.25 in taking the bronze medal in the M75 Long Jump (Bill Morrow set the old record in 2004). He also won another bronze medal in the Shot put with 7.85m
Paul Thompson put in another fine run in taking 6th place in the M40 800m in a large field but unfortunately his training partner Rob Andrew was not able to finish his M50 1500m due to injury. An event I would fully expected him to have won based on his early seasons times. Lets hope he is able to get it sorted out.
David Price also just missed out on the bronze in taking fourth place in the M70 javelin. His distance of 30.33m was not far off his club record. More practise in those fields of yours David! By the way those of you who do not know David makes a round trip of about 300 miles to compete for the club. Well done everyone”

Upcoming weekend – 14/15 September

There are lots of Royal Sutton athletes in competition this weekend. Laura Whittle will be competing amongst the elite runners at the Great North Run on Sunday. Full coverage of the event is on the BBC on both Saturday (Great City Games) and Sunday.

A number of our top veterans will in action at the Alexander Stadium for the British Masters Championships. We wish them all the best.

Elsewhere we have athletes competing at the Telford Games and Vyrnwy Half Marathon. Good luck everyone!

Results roundup

A couple of results to catch up on. On 31 August our junior athletes travelled to Worcester for the final Heart of England match of the season. The results are available here. Chase Hansle, Millie Fidkin, Connie Wooton, Michael Iwanowicz, Ben Horton, Evan Prichard, Connor Notley, Chrissie Prince and Maddy Underwood all won events.

On Sunday 1 September our veterans travelled to Nuneaton for the Cup Final. Team Manager John Topliss reports:

“Our very small team (but perfectly formed with the best looking Team Manager) put in some great performances. The men finished in 5th place and the women in 7th place in the B Final.
For the women the two Fionas both won their events, with Fiona E equalling her seasons PB in the W35 100m (she is 6th in the UK rankings) and Fiona S dropping down ten years to win the W40 Hammer. Lorna took 2nd place in the W35 Shot and 3rd in the W50 Javelin and W50 Hammer.
For the Men Kevin once again threw another 50m plus Discus throw to take 1st place in the M40 event and backed this up in taking 1st place in the M35 Shot and 2nd place in the M35 Hammer. Kevin tops the British rankings for the Discus from M35 upwards. Graham took 1st place in the M60 Shot getting close to his PB and followed this up with 3rd place in the M60 Discus and 4th in the M50 Hammer.
Ed was in fine form to take 1st place in the M35 Javelin, 3rd in the M40 Pole Vault ( I am Ed’s official pole transporter) and 4th in the M40 Long Jump.
David took a splendid 5th place in dropping down 20 years in the M50 Javelin.
Fred told me that he found the initial pace of the M35 400m too fast but he still managed to finish in 2nd place and then took 3rd place in the M35 Triple Jump
The M35 3000m race was the best quality race I have witnessed for quite a few years which led to Nick taking 3rd place but in a time that he has not achieved since being a Junior. He then surprised me by taking 3rd place in the M35 High Jump. Paul Thompson produced two fine runs in taking 2nd places in the M40 800m and the M40 1500m.
After a long injury lay off Donald showed  he is getting back into shape by getting 2nd place in the M35 100m (he turns 50 in the next few days) Patrick was having a fine race in the M50 100m until his dreaded hamstring went again and he dropped back to 5th (otherwise he would have slashed his PB).
A special thanks to our time keeper Ruth and Ian S for helping out at the High Jump.”
