Royal Sutton’s young athletes were mixing it with the top runners in the country at the English Schools XC last weekend. This was at Temple Newsam Park – in heavy showers plus storm force winds. The average fields in the junior and intermediate events were 350 runners.
Junior girls:
- Mante Nausedaite 196th – top WM scorer
- Martha Wood 247th – 2nd WM scorer despite losing a shoe in the first 300m
- Charlotte Prince 264th – 4th WM scorer
- Zara Buchanan – support back-up position
- Sian Duval 180th 4th Staffordshire scorer
Intermediate girls:
- Lucy Carey 119th 2nd WM scorer
- Charlotte Hey 205th 6th WM scorer
Senior girls:
- Ellen Humpherston 116th 2nd WM Scorer
- Caitlin O’Connor 164th 3rd Staffordshire scorer
Junior Boys:
- Jack Wakefield 140th 3rd WM scorer

Congratulations to Brian Higson who won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Sutton Sports Awards on Friday night. This is in recognition to the years of support he has provided to our young athletes. Well done Brian – thoroughly deserved!
Seven Royal Sutton athletes qualified for the National English Schools’ Cross-Country Championships when they finished in the top 6 in their respective age groups at the West Midlands Schools’ Championships, held at Warley Woods Saturday 19th January. Royal Sutton won individual medals in all three of the girl’s races with Martha Wood winning the junior girls race, Lucy Carey coming second in the Inter girl’s race and Ellen Humpherston taking gold in the Seniors.
