English Schools XC

En Schools' scorers 2019 (1)Royal Sutton’s young athletes were mixing it with the top runners in the country at the English Schools XC last weekend. This was at Temple Newsam Park – in heavy showers plus storm force winds. The average fields in the junior and intermediate events were 350 runners.

Junior girls:

  • Mante Nausedaite 196th – top WM scorer
  • Martha Wood 247th – 2nd WM scorer despite losing a shoe in the first 300m
  • Charlotte Prince 264th  –  4th WM scorer
  • Zara Buchanan – support back-up position
  • Sian Duval  180th  4th Staffordshire scorer

Intermediate girls:

  • Lucy Carey  119th  2nd WM scorer
  • Charlotte Hey  205th  6th WM scorer

Senior girls:

  • Ellen Humpherston  116th  2nd WM Scorer
  • Caitlin O’Connor  164th  3rd Staffordshire scorer

Junior Boys:

  • Jack Wakefield  140th  3rd WM scorer

More medals at the British Masters

“I’ve Just come across further results from Lee Valley and delighted to report that Kevin Brown took gold in the M50 Discus with a throw of  43.86m and Donald Brown took a second gold in the M55 200m in a time of 25.75
Well done Kevin and Donald .Great performances.”

Donald wins gold and silver at the British Masters

Hi Everyone, Just seen the results of the British Masters Indoors Champs at the weekend at Lee Valley and delighted to report that Donald Brown won  gold and silver medals.
Here are the results:
Donald Brown M55 60m Hurdles 1st 9.24 .A new Club record
M55 60m 2nd 7.75
Well done Donald . Great performances.
PS Donald will be competing later this month in The World Masters Indoor Champs in Torun,Poland from March 24th to the 30th.
We wish him a great Championship.

 

Royal Sutton at the Inter Counties XC – 9 March

Some great results for Royal Sutton athletes competing for Warwickshire at the Inter Counties XC at Prestwold Hall.

  • Senior Men – Shaun Evans  (38th) overall position (1st for Warwickshire and 6th U23 runner).

U17 women – Charlotte Hey 140th and 3rd scorer. Team 24th

U15 girls – Lucy Carey 142nd and 3rd scorer out of 309 runners (Team 33rd out of 45)

Midland XC Championships

Sutton’s U13 girls followed up their success in the Schools’ races by taking team medals in the Midland cross-country championships at Leamington last Saturday 26th.  The team finished 3rd out of the 26 competing Midland clubs. The scorers and bronze medal winners were Martha Wood (10th), Mante Nausedaite (13th), Charlotte Prince (35th), and Emily Symes (42nd) in a field of 121 runners. Good back-up support came from Francesca Allen (59th) and Olivia Allen (61st). Good runs also from Sammie Wakefield, Eva Kelly, and Lucy Rigby.

In the U15 girl’s race, notable performances from Lucy Carey (16th) and Sian Duval (32nd) with excellent support runs from Elsa and Zara Buchanan, and Jess Hales in her first championship race.

The U20 race featured brave performances from WM Schools’ champion Ellen Humpherston (15th) and Georgia Delaney.

Kane breaks 60m indoor sprint record

Here’s a quick update from John T:

Hi Everyone, Just seen the results of the Indoor Meeting in Cardiff yesterday ( Cardiff Met GP2) and pleased to report that Kane Howitt broke his own Senior Club Record with a time of 6.93 secs in taking 5th place in the Final. This breaks his own record of 6.99 set in 2018. He also recorded 6.94 in his heat. He also won the number one 200m race in a time of 22.07 which was the fastest time recorded at the meet of 13 races. This is a new indoor PB for Kane beating his previous best of 22.35.

West Midlands Schools Championships

img_20190119_125306Seven Royal Sutton athletes qualified for the National English Schools’ Cross-Country  Championships when they finished in the top 6 in their respective age groups at the West Midlands Schools’ Championships, held at Warley Woods Saturday 19th January. Royal Sutton won individual medals in all three of the girl’s races with Martha Wood winning the junior girls race, Lucy Carey coming second in the Inter girl’s race and Ellen Humpherston taking gold in the Seniors.
The other qualifiers for English Schools’ in the Junior race were Charlotte Prince (4th), Zara Buchanan (5th) and Mante Nausedaite (6th). In the Inter girl’s race, Charlotte Hey finished 5th, and in the Junior boys, Jack Wakefield was 4th.
The National English Schools’ Cross-Country Championships will be run in Leeds on Saturday 16th March.
Three of our Year 7 athletes also finished in the top 6 in the Minor girl’s race, namely Evie Sandland, Francesca Allen and Olivia Allen with Sammie Wakefield finishing 11th. These young girls also qualify for a similar National Schools’ event on the 23rd March.
