Midland Athletics League – 27 May

The senior team had a fantastic day at the 2nd track and field meeting at Wyndley on Sunday.  We finished in first place with our athletes setting five new divisional records:
  • 100m  – Nicholas Pryce 10.8
  • 200m – Nicholas Pryce 22.1
  • Discus – Kevin Brown 48.20m
  • 4x100m Relay – 45.0 ( Luke Fleming, Nicholas Pryce, Adam Barnes and Nicholas Mwebe)
  • 3000m Megan McBrien – 10.30.0
Nicholas Pryce’s 100m time is also a new club record, taking over James Simmons record set in 1989.  A video of the run is available on our FLICKR page here.

The 4x400m relays were another highlight with the women winning by the length of the home straight and the men also having a great victory.  Nicholas Pryces’s 400m split was recorded by Ruth Dobbins to be 47.1 (WOW!).
Well done to Kane Howitt, Alister Breuns, Andrea Deathridge, Clive Hackforth, Marcus Smedley, Tony Hinchley, Nicholas Mbewe, Madeleine Stearn, Natassja Longstaff, Miranda Stoddart and Charlotte Last who all performed exceptionally on their first appearances for the senior athletics team.

Thanks also to the many people who helped out behind the scenes to make it such a successful event (some who were helping to set up from 8am).

The next meeting is on 1 July at Burton.  Let’s have a great turnout and see if we can get another team victory!

Hill West 10k – 20 May

One that’s just come to our attention – well done to Olivia Larcombe who won the women’s race at the Hill West 10k last Sunday.  This was her 1st competitive race for a couple of years.  Great effort!

Victory for the RSCAC Young Athletes

Well done to the young athletes team who won today’s YAL at Burton by 60 points.  It was a great team effort with many epic performances. The relays were a clear highlight with 1st places in the U17M 4 x 100m, U17W 4 x 300m and U15B 4 x 300m.  It was 2nd places for the U17W 4 x 100m and U15B 4 x 100m. Then it was 3rd places for the U13G 4 x 100m and U15G 4 x 100m.

There were so many 1st – 3rd places that it is really hard to mention everyone. So I think it’s best to say a big well done to everyone and tell you all to look out in this week’s Observer for the full write up!

There are some photos of the event available on the private area of our FLICKR page.  Email RSCACphotos@yahoo.com if you are a member and you would like us to send you a link.

New 4x100m club record

The results of the Young Athletes league meeting on 6 May have just been published and are available here (a full report is in this week’s Observer).  There were some great performances – in particular, the under 17 boys 4x100m relay team of Stefan Anderson, Nicholas Mbewe, Alister Brauns, and Kane Howitt set a new club record of 45.9.  The old record of 46.9 dated back to 1993.  The team is in action again today at Burton so lets see if they can improve their time further.  Well done to the guys

Hill West 10k – 20 May

We had two runners in the top five in the Hill West 10k in Sutton Park today.  Russell Simpson finished 3rd and Colin McAuley finished 5th – both had great runs as they tried to get some speed back in their legs after their recent marathon exploits. Dave Liddell also ran well with a top ten finish.

We need your help on Sunday 27th May!!!

We have a home meeting on Sunday 27th May (just over a week away) and we desperately need help for it.  We are currently looking for:

  • Someone to drive the ‘buggy’ around the track to set up for the meeting/ put stuff away afterwards/ put hurdles away during the meeting.
  • Someone to do scoring on a computer programme.
  • Some people to do 2 hour stints on the coffee bar.
  • Volunteers to help officiate field events.

The meeting starts at 11:30 so set up will be at 10:00.  It will end at 5pm.

If you can help out for some or all of the day, please email rscac@hotmail.co.uk to say when you’re available and what you’d be happy to do.

And if you can’t help out, please come with your pom-poms to support your senior men and women!
