If any athletes, parents or supporters are interested in becoming a track and field official there are a couple of courses coming up at the Alexander Stadium – a level 1 course on 9 March and a level 2 course on 20 March. It’s a great way to get involved and support the club. If you’re interested please speak to Katie Jennings.

West Midlands Young Athletes XC League – 10 February
The results from yesterdays race at Perry Park are available here. Well done to everyone who braved the wet and mud. Great running in particular by Shaun Evans who finished 2nd in the U15 Boys and Kieran Mullis who was 3rd in the U13 Boys. Well done also to the U11 girls who won their race and clinched the league title for their age group.
Birmingham XC League Div 1 – 9 February
The senior men finished the league season with a great performance at Perry Park today. Ollie Haradence had an outstanding run to finish in 17th place. Our other scorers were Nick Corker (24th), Paul Terleski (89th), Dave Long (92nd), Steve Marklew (118th) and Russell Simpson (125th). The full results are available here.
Our score of 466 points was our best in the four races and meant we finished in 13th place on the day. Unfortunately it was not enough to keep us in Division 1. However, hopefully we can bounce back again next year.
The results for our runners from each of the four races are available here: XC team rankings – 2012-13
Many thanks to Phil Pollock and Bob Owen for supporting the team and helping us with marshalling duties.
Good luck to all the juniors who will be competing at the same venue tomorrow in their final league match. We’ve softened up the course nicely for you!
Sutton Coldfield Sports Awards
Royal Sutton had a really successful evening at the Sutton Sports awards on Friday with Janice Pryce winning the Veteran Sports Personality of the Year and the U17 Women’s XC team (Katie Ingle, Megan McBrien, Rebecca Robinson and Gaby Kinney) winning the junior team of the year. Janice had a great 2012 winning the British title and setting new British records for the W50 triple jump (indoors and outdoors), whilst the U17 women dominated regional cross country events and finished runners up in the National Cross Country Championships.
Katie Ingle and Mike Marshall reached the final three for Junior Sports Personality of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Awards respectively. The Junior Sports Personality of the Year was won by Jemma Westgate (a club member) in recognition of her achievements in the modern pentathlon. Well done everyone!

Birmingham Games – 2/3 February
Our sprinters showed some great form competing against a star studded field at the Birmingham Games.
Nicholas Pryce had a fantastic weekend improving his club records for both the 60m and 200m. He ran a time of 7.01 seconds to finish 6th in the men’s semi final of the 60m and 21.90 seconds to finish 4th in the semi final of the 200m against an incredibly strong field. In his heat he ran against Nigel Levine, whilst in his semi final he ran against Conrad Williams, Luke Lennon Ford and Johan Wissman (a World Indoor silver medalist at 200m and 400m)!
Kane Howitt won his heat in the U17 boys 60m in 7.45 seconds and Megan Evans took 5th place in her heat of the 60m (although she didn’t get to race Christine Ohorugo this year!). Adam Barnes and Luke Flemming had great runs in the 400m.
The results are available here: Day 1 and Day 2
Hopefully there will be some video action to follow from the Athleticos website. We’ll put links on the website when available.
