World Masters Indoors

Great performances by Fred Tremblay and Donald Brown at the World Masters Indoor Athletics Championships in Budapest. Fred ran a fantastic time of 1.57 to finish 6th in the final of the M35 800m. The race was won by GB athlete James Thie in a time of 1.53. Video of the final from Paul Osland is here.

Donald Brown ran close to his club record to reach the final of the 60m hurdles. His time of 8.88 was close to a PB and apparently was achieved despite having a cracked rib put back in place earlier in the week!!! Donald also put in a great performance in the 60m where he ran 7.78 in the semi’s.

Well done guys!

Midland Road Relays – 16 March

Tom Chew Road RelaysGreat performances by our men and women at the road relays in Sutton Park on Saturday. The men, who were missing a number of runners, secured qualification to the National Road Relays with a 22nd place finish. Ollie Harradence ran the fastest long leg for the club (27:31), whilst Chris Taylor ran the fastest short leg (15:22). There were particularly strong runs by Carl Dunne, Dean England and Marcus Smedley who have all had battles with injury over recent months. Well done also to Steve Marklew and Dave Long who ran decent times on legs 11 and 12 after running the Stafford Half Marathon in the morning!!!

  2.  Frederic Tremblay (33) 15:24
  3. Oliver Harradence (25) 27:31
  4. Dean England (26) 16:34
  5. Carl Dunne (26) 30:21
  6. Rob Andrew (26) 16:49
  7. Thomas Chew (26) 31:05
  8. Marcus Smedley (26) 15:52

  10. Chris Taylor (24) 15:22
  11. David Long (23) 16:19
  12. Steve Marklew (22) 16:04

Women's Team Road RelaysThe women had an incomplete team of only four runners – a shame as the team was in 5th place at the end of the 4th leg. Katie Ingle had a particularly strong run to record the 8th fastest time of the day. Kate McBrien also ran well, especially given that she had also run a half marathon during the weekend (although at least she had had a nights sleep between races).

  1. Katie Ingle (4) 15:09
  2. Megan McBrien (4) 16:19
  3. Amy Johnson (5) 17:27
  4. Kate McBrien (5) 17:22

The National Road Relays take place on 5 April in Sutton Park where we hope to put out strong men’s and women’s team. Please let Steve (Men’s Team) or Margaret (Women’s Team) know if you’re able to run.

Stafford Half Marathon – 16 March

Stafford half marathon - Dave LongThe marathon runners were back out again on Sunday, although it was only 13.2 miles this weekend – barely worth getting out of bed! Donald Brown wins two golds at the British Masters Indoor Championships

Donald Brown had a great weekend at the British Masters Indoors Championships, with two gold medal winning performances in the M50 age group.

Having won his heat in the 60m in 7.61 he stepped it up in the final to take first place in a time of 7.57. This is an excellent time and close to the club record of 7.40 which was set by Ron Taylor (and at the time was a world record).
In the 60m Hurdles Donald ran another quality race to take first place in a time of 8.73, shattering his recently established club record by over three tenths. Well done Donald – great performances!

Stafford 20 – 9 March

Steve Marklew - Stafford 20Our marathon men recorded some great times in the Stafford 20 on Sunday. Steve Marklew was the first RSC athlete home, finishing 7th in a time of 2.05. Well done also to Russell Simpson (2.09), Colin McAuley (2.12), Paul Terleski (2.15), Mark Rickards (2.18), Subodh Dave (2.18), Matt Stenson (2.27), Paul Jenkins (2.31) and Richard Lewis (2.40). The team narrowly missed out on the team prize – shame as it was a case of Bud which would have gone down nicely!

They’ll be back on the roads in Stafford again this weekend for the half marathon. Good luck guys!
