Midland Athletic League – 5 July

Kane HowittHi Everyone, What a great team spirit on Sunday. I could not ask for more support from everyone who was able to attend .Thank you all. According to the provisional results we finished in third place. We will put the final results on the website when they are available.

A special thanks to our officials Jane F, Ian S, Janice P, Derek P, Brian H, Nick C, Stuart G,and Fiona S.
Four new club records were set at the match. They are:
  • Elliott Walker Under 20 Long Jump 6.36m, beating his own record.
  • Connor Notley Under 20 Discus (2Kg) 36.76m, beating his own record
  • Liam Goodall Under 17 Hammer (7.26 Kg) 33.02m, beating Connors old record
  • Chrissie Prince Under 17 Hammer (4Kg) 34.55m, beating her own record
Well done to Elliott,Connor,Liam and Chrissie. Wow!!!
The last meeting is at Solihull on the 9th August so please put it in your diary .
Three of our athletes have been selected for representative honours in the near future.
  • Chrissie P and Connor N will be competing in the English Schools Champs at Gateshead representing West Midlands Schools on Friday/Saturday.
  • Lorna F will be representing Midland Masters in the Inter Area Champs at Solihull on 19 July.

Records tumble as RSC win the latest YDL clash

Great performances from our U17/U20 team at Wyndley on Sunday with a win for RSC and lots of fantastic individual performances, including (at least) four new club records:

  • U20 long jump – Elliot Walker broke his own club record of 6.20m with a jump of 6.32m. He had a superb series of jumps.
  • U20 triple jump – Elliot Walker with a jump of 12.43m. This breaks the old club record set in 1999 by Adam D’Arcy
  • U17 Pole vault – Bonita Deathridge (2.25m). This was Bonita’s first competition and she breaks the record of 2m set by Charlotte Last in 2012.
  • U17 4kg Hammer  – Chrissie Prince breaking her own record with a throw of 33.46m

Well done everyone – In particular Elliot, Bonita and Chrissie and their coaches (Meg, Ernie and Graham).

New club records for Chrissie Prince and Jennie Hopkinson

“Some great news over the last few days. Firstly Chrissie Prince, competing at the Mason Trophy, came 5th in the Discus and 7th in the Hammer. The Hammer Competition took 3 hours 40 minutes in total and the first 7 girls all achieved England Schools Standard. Chrissies throw of 41.78 metres sets a new PB and Club Record for U17 Girls 3Kg Hammer

On Monday Jennie Hopkinson won 2 Silver Medals at the Independent Schools National Championship at Alexander Stadium:

  • 100 metres 12.9 seconds New PB and equals Fiona’s Club Record set in 1977.
  • 200 metres 27.2 Seconds New PB.”

Excellent performances by everyone young and old. Thanks for all your support. A report will be sent to the Sutton Observer this week. There were six new club records set:

  • Elliott Walker Junior (under 20) Long Jump 6.20m . also very close to the triple record.
  • Connor Notley Junior (under 20) Discus (2 Kg) 33.45m
  • Nick Corker M40 3k steeplechase 10.36.6
  • Graham Felton M65 Shot (7.26 Kg) 7.60m  and Discus (2Kg)19.66m
  • Senior Mens 4x100m relay 43.8 secs Nicholas Pryce/Shem Nelson/Cameron Kirkbride/Kane Howitt.
Special thanks to our officials – Fiona S/Ian S (Hannah’s Dad)/Brian H/Chrissie’s Dad, Arnie E (Meghan’s Dad) and Graham F. If you stayed to the end you would have witnessed a very exciting victory by our Men’s 4x400m relay team. Great running guys!

Midland Masters Championships – 7 June

photoWe had some great performances by our athletes at the Midland Masters Championships at Nuneaton Sunday.

  • Kevin Brown M50 1st Discus and Shot with new Club records .Due to his recent injury these had to be standing throws.
  • Lorna Foster W50 1st Shot,2nd Javelin,2nd Discus,and 3rd Hammer. A busy weekend for Lorna after competing for the Senior team at Corby on Saturday.
  • David Price M70 1st Javelin
  • Richard Henry M40 2nd 100m
  • Jhalman Singh M75 2nd Shot.
Finally just received the news that Swaran Singh (Current British M70 Discus Champion) has won the 2015 Indian Masters Championship and additionally took the silver medal in the Hammer.
