English National XC Championships – 23 February

Well done to the hardy group of athletes who made the long journey North for the National XC Championships in Sunderland. As with many races this year conditions (snow and mud this time) did not make for easy running! The highlight for the club was a 5th place finish by the junior women, with Katie Ingle 11th, Megan McBrien 18th and Miranda Stoddart 65th. The team was only 1 point behind the 3rd place team.

Well done to everyone else who competed. Videos of the races are available on the Athleticos website here. Results are available here.

Indoors Athletics – 9/10 February

Nicholas Pryce ran in the 200m at the British Athletics European Trials and UK Chamiponships. He ran a time of 22.23 in his heat against Conrad Williams and eventual winner and UK Champion Chris Clarke.

Kane Howitt, Megan Evans, Luke Fleming, Adam Barnes and Ethan Clamp were all in action at the Midland Championships. The results are available here.

Birmingham XC League Div 1 – 9 February

www.birminghamccleague.co.uk - 2012/13 - Race 4 The senior men finished the league season with a great performance at Perry Park today.  Ollie Haradence had an outstanding run to finish in 17th place. Our other scorers were Nick Corker (24th), Paul Terleski (89th), Dave Long (92nd), Steve Marklew (118th) and Russell Simpson (125th). The full results are available here.

Our score of 466 points was our best in the four races and meant we finished in 13th place on the day.  Unfortunately it was not enough to keep us in Division 1.  However, hopefully we can bounce back again next year.

The results for our runners from each of the four races are available here: XC team rankings – 2012-13

Many thanks to Phil Pollock and Bob Owen for supporting the team and helping us with marshalling duties.

Good luck to all the juniors who will be competing at the same venue tomorrow in their final league match.  We’ve softened up the course nicely for you!

Birmingham Games – 2/3 February

Our sprinters showed some great form competing against a star studded field at the Birmingham Games.

Nicholas Pryce had a fantastic weekend improving his club records for both the 60m and 200m.  He ran a time of 7.01 seconds to finish 6th in the men’s semi final of the 60m and 21.90 seconds to finish 4th in the semi final of the 200m against an incredibly strong field.  In his heat he ran against Nigel Levine, whilst in his semi final he ran against Conrad Williams, Luke Lennon Ford and Johan Wissman (a World Indoor silver medalist at 200m and 400m)!

Kane Howitt won his heat in the U17 boys 60m in 7.45 seconds and Megan Evans took 5th place in her heat of the 60m (although she didn’t get to race Christine Ohorugo this year!).  Adam Barnes and Luke Flemming had great runs in the 400m.

The results are available here: Day 1 and Day 2

Hopefully there will be some video action to follow from the Athleticos website.  We’ll put links on the website when available.

Midland XC Championships – 26 January

Congratulations to our U20 women who had a great victory at the Midland XC Championships at Stafford Common yesterday.  Katie Ingle finished in 3rd place, Megan McBrien was 5th, Rebecca Robinson was 8th and Miranda Stoddart was 16th.  The result is all the more impressive given that all the runners are in the first year of this age group.

We also had great performances by our other runners in all the other age groups.  The full results are available here, photos are available on Bryan Dale’s website here, and videos are available on the Athleticos site here.  Well done everyone!

Midland Indoor 1st Open Meeting – 12/13 January

Our sprinters had a great start to the indoor season at the High Performance Centre on Saturday.  Nicholas Pryce set another club record in the 60m sprint with a time of 7.03 seconds. This breaks a record of 7.1 seconds set in 1988 by James Simmons.  Nicholas now is the holder of all the senior men club sprint records upto 400m.  Adam Barnes also ran a couple of fast times.

The results are available here.  Videos are available on the Athleticos site here.  Nick’s record breaking run is here.

Birmingham and District XC League Div 1 – 12 Jan

A 14th place finish for the senior men at a muddy Sandwell Valley yesterday.  The star performance came from Ollie Harradence who finished in 23rd place, his best ever position in Division 1.  Dave Long had a great run to get into the top 100, whilst Chris Taylor ran well to be our 6th counter. The full results are available here.

The Midland Women’s league race was run at the same venue.  Andrea Deathridge was our only runner, finishing in 30th place.

Special thanks to Phil Pollock and Bob Owen who gave up their Saturday afternoon to help us with the marshalling and team management duties.
