London Marathon – 21 April

Congratulations to everyone who completed the London Marathon today. We had some fantastic performances – Ollie Harradence was the first Royal Sutton runner home in a super fast time of 2.34. Next back was Russell Simpson in a PB of 2.47, whilst we had three other runners break 3 hours (Steve Marklew, Chris Taylor and Colin McAuley).  Our first ladies home were Andrea Deathridge who ran 3.13 on her marathon debut and Kate McBrien who ran a PB of 3.13.

There were also PBs for Dave Bowen, Clive Hackforth, Mark Rickards, Matt Stenson and Sue Browne, with Sue knocking 14 minutes of her previous best!

Results are available on the London Marathon website here. Enter Royal Sutton in the club category and you’ll get the results for all 15 runners. Well done everyone!

National Road Relays – 13 April

http://www.englishroadrunningassociation.co.uk/Royal Sutton’s senior men and women put in some great performances at the National Road Relays on Saturday. The highlight was provided by Laura Whittle who ran away from the field on the 1st leg to record the second fastest time of the day.

The women’s team ultimately finished in 36th place.  This was a great result given the team included three junor athletes (Miranda Stoddart, Megan McBrien, Rebecca Robinson) and two athletes making their debuts at this event (Vici Richardson and Nikki Singh).

The men’s team was missing a number of key runners and finished in 62nd position. Ollie Haradence showed he is in good form ahead of the marathon by recording a course PB of 28.56, whilst Chris Taylor ran the fastest short leg for the men in a time of 17.00.

The full results are available here: Men’s Women’s Photos should be available on Bryan Dale’s excellent website here in the next few days.

Ashby 20 – 17 March

Ashby 20 Team PrizeSteve Marklew reports on a successful day for our endurance athletes at the Ashby 20:

“On a cold and wet morning 10 RSCAC athletes ran in the Ashby 20 mile race, a traditional London Marathon preparation event. Starting off at a controlled pace Ollie Harradence let a small group of runners take the initial lead, but soon pulled them back and by half way was leading the race by himself. He ran out eventual winner in a time of 1 hour 54 mins. The club also won the team event with Ollie being joined by Russell Simpson (2h 03) and Steve Marklew (2h 05).

All RSCAC runners ran well on a testing course in difficult conditions with many running personal bests. This augurs well for their participation in the London Marathon in April, where 14 club members will be competing.”

The full results are available here.

English Schools XC Championships – 16 March

Royal Sutton were well represented at the English Schools XC Championships at Catton Hall near Burton. The senior girls all ran superbly again with Katie Ingle finishing 7th, Megan McBrien 12th and Rebecca Robinson 40th. This concludes a fantastic winter for the girls who have recorded great placings in all the major regional and national XC races.

Georgia Curry finished 78th in the junior girls, whilst Shaun Evans was 104th in the inter boys. Other runners competing for the West Midlands included Joel Kirsten, Kieran Mullis, Theo Larcombe and Laura Richardson – well done all!

Results are available here. Videos are available on the Athleticos website here. Look out for our athletes in their West Midlands colours (red vests with the yellow and green band).

Inter Counties XC Championships – 9 March

Congratulations to all the Royal Sutton athletes who represented Warwickshire at the Inter Counties Championships at Cofton Park yesterday. We had 13 athletes competing across the various age groups, with top 100 finishes for Katie Ingle (9th), Megan McBrien (18th), Rebecca Robinson (48th) and Shaun Evans (63rd).

A race report and the full results are available on the British Athletics here. Well done to everyone who raced and earned a county vest!

Droitwich Half Marathon – 3 March

Those long Sunday runs are clearly paying off as three of our distance team set PBs at the Droitwich Half Marathon on Sunday. Russell Simpson was first home for the club in a PB of 1.17.24. Colin McAuley slashed 4 minutes off his PB to finish in 1.21.27, whilst Mark Rickards knocked 3 minutes off his previous best to finish in 1.23.44.

Steve Marklew and Paul Terleski also had decent runs finishing in 1.18.07 and 1. 20.33 respectively. The full results are available here.
