West Midlands Young Athletes League – 18 January

A great effort by everyone who ran at Burbage Common yesterday on a testing course that managed to be rock hard in some places and horrifically muddy elsewhere. The star performance came from Georgia Curry who won the U17 women’s race by over 30 seconds. Shaun Evans followed up his win in the Warwickshire County Championships with a great 2nd place finish for the U17 men. Elsa Buchanan finished 2nd for the U11 girls – her best run of the season, whilst Lewis Duval had a great run to finish 3rd in the U13 boy’s race.

There were some really strong team performances. In particular, the U11 girls, U13 girls and U17 men are all in contention for medals with one race to go. Overall the club finished 4th on the day out of 19 clubs and moved into 4th place in the league.

The last race takes place at Birchfield on 15th February – lets have a great turnout and finish the league season in style.

Senior XC Leagues – 10 January

imageAnother tough day for our XC teams at the weekend. The senior men travelled to Coundon Park Coventry for the latest Division 1 match. Whilst there were lots of fantastic individual performances, unfortunately it appears we’re doomed to a swift relegation back to Division 2. Highlights included a great run by Chris Taylor who literally ran himself into the ground to come home as our second counter, a great battle to the line between Paul Terleski and Jim Barlow and a fantastic run by the ever improving Mark Rickards.

Massive thanks to our hardy supporters who braved the bitter cold and to Phil Pollock for helping with the officiating. Your support is much appreciated!

The women ran at Droitwich. Our sole representatives were Andrea Deathridge and Megan McBrien, who both had decent runs. Competing against a top quality field Andrea finished 33rd and Megan was 42nd. The race was won by GB athlete Jessica Judd, whilst former World Triathlon Champion Chrissie Wellington finished 6th!

Warwickshire County Championships – 3rd January

DSCF0570There were some great performances by Royal Sutton athletes at the Warwickshire County Championships at Cofton yesterday. Torrential morning rain led to some horrendous muddy wet conditions, in particular for the early races – of the seven RSC athletes competing in the U13 girls race only four finished the race with both shoes!!!

The highlight was a superb individual gold medal for Shaun Evans in the U17 men’s race. He led home the team of Alex Jones, Max Sellars and Alex Blackham to a team gold, with Alex Jones finishing 3rd and Max Sellars finishing 5th.

Other highlights included a silver for Georgia Curry in the U17 women’s race. In the U15 girl’s race Ellen Humpherston finished 4th and led home the team, which also included Lucy Ollerenshaw and Verity O’Shea, to a bronze. Ben Horton had a strong run in the U15 boys race finishing 9th which puts him in contention for a county vest later this winter. The U13 girl’s team of Caitlin White, Rachel White and Lucy Corker also won team bronze.

Well done to everyone who took part. The full results are available on the Warwickshire County AA website.
