There may be snow on the ground and the temperatures may be minus five but it’s not that long until the outdoor athletics season is upon us. The dates for the senior track and field league have now been announced and are as follows:

Due to the snow, there will be no sprint or throws session with Graham tonight (Thurs). Please spread the word! Other groups may still be training. You’ll need to contact your coach.
The sprint/long jump/hurdles group will be indoors at the high performance centre at the Alexander Staium Perry Barr tomorrow (Friday) from 5.30 – 7pm. It costs £2.10 for under 16 and £4.20 for over 16. If you fancy it, come along. You pay at the main Alenxander Stadium reception, they’ll give you a wrist band and then you walk across to the indoor centre.

For those wanting to train in comfort and warmth the NIA is opening its doors to the public for training between 1700hrs and 2100hrs on the following dates:

The track is being cleaned today, tomorrow and Friday, so we are unable to use it. The distance groups will go running on the roads, but us sprinters, long jumpers and hurdlers really need a track. So there is no sprint training tomorrow.
Also, it is the monthly Sportshall competition on Friday at Stockland Green Leisure Centre, 7.15pm till 9.45pm, for athletes in school year 6 to school year 10.
Here’s your chance to win a fantastic Christmas present. We will be having a prize draw at the club house on Thursday 20 December with two great prizes on offer. The 1st prize is a team GB T-Shirt, 2nd prize is a club vest. Both are signed by Olympic athletes Greg Rutherford (Long Jump Gold Medalist), Christine Ohuruogu (400m Silver Medalist) and Lawrence Clarke (110m hurdles 4th place). Tickets are £1 each and are available from the coffee bar.
The next 100 club prize draw will take place on Thursday 29 November after training in the club house. The prizes are: 1st prize – £50; 2nd prize – £30; 3rd prize – £25; 4th, 5th and 6th prizes – £15
The Christmas draw for £100 (one ball only) will be taking place after training on Thursday 20 December.

According to an article in Athletics Weekly the National Road Relays are back on. The venue is yet to be confirmed but is described as being at a “magnificent private estate about an hour north of Birmingham.” The young athletes event, which was scheduled for the same weekend, will be moved to April.
