Christmas Training

Over the Christmas period training will vary from the usual, some have a break, some take advantage of the time off work and school and move training to day time to use the park. Each group has it’s own plan, this is a summary, please note though, if you hear different directly from your coach – go with that! And for those sessions that are on the track, we are dependant on Wyndley keeping it open, so if the weather is looking iffy – check the website, or social media for any updates.

20/12 – Note the amended times for Tony/Andy and Meg / Ann / Dave / Caroline / Robin’s groups

23/12 update – 27/12 & 29/12 updated for Dean & Gemma

U17 Men win the Warkwickshire XC Title

On Saturday 10th Dec at the 2022 Warwickshire Cross Country Championships, hosted at Welkin Farm , a beautiful location near Rugby, the U17 men became the new Warwickshire Cross Country Champions winning the PJ Evans trophy, a competition first held in 1959.

On a cold, partly frozen 6km course, the Under 17’s boys produced a great team and individual performances to end the year. In a joint race with Worcestershire, the team posted 5th, 10th and 15th places overall but finished in 3rd, 8th and 12th places for Warwickshire, with Nick finishing in 3rd place. In the team competition they were clear winners , with the nearest team to RSCAC, Birchfield, finishing 9 points behind.

Well done boys!

On Boxing Day (that’s Monday 26th December, just in case…) the U11s endurance squad will be attempting to work off some of that Christmas dinner, by having a (reasonably gentle) run, probably in Sutton Park. Meet at the clubhouse at 10am. All parents welcome: we won’t be going far…promise…

SUPERB SUTTON SHINE

There are days when you have a right to feel proud. This was one of them for anyone associated with RSCAC.

Sunday 20th February 2022 was the date for the 5th and final fixture in the West Midlands Young Athletes Cross-Country League for 2021/22, held at The Pingles in Nuneaton.

Sunday 20th February 2022 was when RSCAC experienced success… after success… after success.

Sunday 20th February 2022 was a day for cheers and tears, for trophies and medals, for a round of applause and a pat on the back.

——————–

On the day, 3 out of the 8 RSCAC teams – the U11 Girls, U17 Women and U17 Men finished 1st.

There were also some exceptional individual performances: Sian Duval and Bethan Homer finishing 1st and 4th respectively in the U17 Women; Will Seager finishing 3rd in the U11 Boys; George Hope, George O’Connor and Ethan Patel finishing 4th, 5th and 6th in the U17 Men; Isla Daly and Sophia Potocka finishing in the top 10 in the U11 Girls; and Noah Homer finishing 2nd in the U13 Boys.

———————

And after 5 matches, what are the headlines?

To succeed, our athletes had to

  • Attend, endure in at times challenging conditions, and perform a winter season of training.
  • Attend, endure in at times challenging conditions, and perform on race days.
  • Show commitment, determination and provide inspiration to others around them.

Did they succeed? Oh yes!

In the overall team competition, with 21 clubs competing in 8 age-group teams, RSCAC came 2nd, more than 1000 points ahead of the 3rd placed team.

4, yes 4 out of the 8 teams came 1st overall in their age group: U17 Women, U17 Men, U11 Girls, and U11 Boys!

In the U17 Women, Sian Duval and Bethan Homer were 3rd and 4th overall.

In the U11 Boys, Will Seager was 1st overall, with Yuvan Sidhu and Jayden Bailey in the top 10, 7th and 9th respectively.

In the U17 Men, George O’Connor was 2nd, with Ethan Patel and George Hope in the top 10, 4th and 7th respectively.

In the U11 Girls, we had top 10 places for Sophia Potocka and Isla Daly,  7th and 8th respectively.

And in the U13 Boys, Noah Homer was 2nd.

This chest of team and individual treasure owes a big debt of gratitude to the following:

  • All the coaches, team managers and parent helpers who guided and supported our young athletes through training and competition.
  • All the parents/guardians who allowed their children to flourish and succeed.
  • And above all:  the athletes themselves.

Proud? You bet!

…AND SPEAKING OF SPIKES

Do you have a pair of running spikes which your child has outgrown and which are gathering dust on the shoe rack?
Do you really need a spike rack as well as a spice rack?

Well here is an environmentally-friendly way to clear up a space on that shoe rack.

Please drop into the clubhouse any unwanted PAIRS of spikes, which will be of great value to our athletes for the up and coming cross-country season.

We have a whole new bunch of u11 athletes, new to the sport, so small sizes especially welcome.

The first West Midlands Young Athletes Cross Country League races are less than 3 weeks away, so please:

LET’S HAVE THOSE SPIKES ASAP!!
