Ashby 20 – 17 March

Ashby 20 Team PrizeSteve Marklew reports on a successful day for our endurance athletes at the Ashby 20:

“On a cold and wet morning 10 RSCAC athletes ran in the Ashby 20 mile race, a traditional London Marathon preparation event. Starting off at a controlled pace Ollie Harradence let a small group of runners take the initial lead, but soon pulled them back and by half way was leading the race by himself. He ran out eventual winner in a time of 1 hour 54 mins. The club also won the team event with Ollie being joined by Russell Simpson (2h 03) and Steve Marklew (2h 05).

All RSCAC runners ran well on a testing course in difficult conditions with many running personal bests. This augurs well for their participation in the London Marathon in April, where 14 club members will be competing.”

English Schools XC Championships – 16 March

Royal Sutton were well represented at the English Schools XC Championships at Catton Hall near Burton. The senior girls all ran superbly again with Katie Ingle finishing 7th, Megan McBrien 12th and Rebecca Robinson 40th. This concludes a fantastic winter for the girls who have recorded great placings in all the major regional and national XC races.

Georgia Curry finished 78th in the junior girls, whilst Shaun Evans was 104th in the inter boys. Other runners competing for the West Midlands included Joel Kirsten, Kieran Mullis, Theo Larcombe and Laura Richardson – well done all!

Results are available here. Videos are available on the Athleticos website here. Look out for our athletes in their West Midlands colours (red vests with the yellow and green band).

Inter Counties XC Championships – 9 March

Congratulations to all the Royal Sutton athletes who represented Warwickshire at the Inter Counties Championships at Cofton Park yesterday. We had 13 athletes competing across the various age groups, with top 100 finishes for Katie Ingle (9th), Megan McBrien (18th), Rebecca Robinson (48th) and Shaun Evans (63rd).

A race report and the full results are available on the British Athletics here. Well done to everyone who raced and earned a county vest!

Droitwich Half Marathon – 3 March

Those long Sunday runs are clearly paying off as three of our distance team set PBs at the Droitwich Half Marathon on Sunday. Russell Simpson was first home for the club in a PB of 1.17.24. Colin McAuley slashed 4 minutes off his PB to finish in 1.21.27, whilst Mark Rickards knocked 3 minutes off his previous best to finish in 1.23.44.

Steve Marklew and Paul Terleski also had decent runs finishing in 1.18.07 and 1. 20.33 respectively. The full results are available here.

English National XC Championships – 23 February

Well done to the hardy group of athletes who made the long journey North for the National XC Championships in Sunderland. As with many races this year conditions (snow and mud this time) did not make for easy running! The highlight for the club was a 5th place finish by the junior women, with Katie Ingle 11th, Megan McBrien 18th and Miranda Stoddart 65th. The team was only 1 point behind the 3rd place team.

Well done to everyone else who competed. Videos of the races are available on the Athleticos website here. Results are available here.

New officials needed!

If any athletes, parents or supporters are interested in becoming a track and field official there are a couple of courses coming up at the Alexander Stadium –  a level 1 course on 9 March and a level 2 course on 20 March.  It’s a great way to get involved and support the club. If you’re interested please speak to Katie Jennings.

Indoors Athletics – 9/10 February
