Well done to the hardy group of athletes who made the long journey North for the National XC Championships in Sunderland. As with many races this year conditions (snow and mud this time) did not make for easy running! The highlight for the club was a 5th place finish by the junior women, with Katie Ingle 11th, Megan McBrien 18th and Miranda Stoddart 65th. The team was only 1 point behind the 3rd place team.
Check out Donald Brown’s latest sculpture to mark the London Olympics. This work has meant that Donald has been nominated for the 2013 Cultural Artist Award and he will be going to Atlanta, USA to receive it in April. Well done Donald. To see Donald talking about his sculpture, go on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Haju6DKk4kA. It’s an intersting video.
Congratulations to Mollie Darrock, Chase Hansle, Michael Iwanowicz and Chrissie Prince who represented Birmingham in the Regional Sportshall Final at the weekend. The Birmingham team won EVERY age group. What a result. Well done.
If any athletes, parents or supporters are interested in becoming a track and field official there are a couple of courses coming up at the Alexander Stadium – a level 1 course on 9 March and a level 2 course on 20 March. It’s a great way to get involved and support the club. If you’re interested please speak to Katie Jennings.
If you’ve lost any kit, lost property will be out in the clubhouse this week and next week.
We’re collecting Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers. Help us get some new equipment – bring your vouchers down to the clubhouse and put them in the box at the coffee bar.

The results from yesterdays race at Perry Park are available here. Well done to everyone who braved the wet and mud. Great running in particular by Shaun Evans who finished 2nd in the U15 Boys and Kieran Mullis who was 3rd in the U13 Boys. Well done also to the U11 girls who won their race and clinched the league title for their age group.
The senior men finished the league season with a great performance at Perry Park today. Ollie Haradence had an outstanding run to finish in 17th place. Our other scorers were Nick Corker (24th), Paul Terleski (89th), Dave Long (92nd), Steve Marklew (118th) and Russell Simpson (125th). The full results are available here.
Our score of 466 points was our best in the four races and meant we finished in 13th place on the day. Unfortunately it was not enough to keep us in Division 1. However, hopefully we can bounce back again next year.
The results for our runners from each of the four races are available here: XC team rankings – 2012-13
Many thanks to Phil Pollock and Bob Owen for supporting the team and helping us with marshalling duties.
Good luck to all the juniors who will be competing at the same venue tomorrow in their final league match. We’ve softened up the course nicely for you!
