Midland XC Championships – 26 January

Congratulations to our U20 women who had a great victory at the Midland XC Championships at Stafford Common yesterday.  Katie Ingle finished in 3rd place, Megan McBrien was 5th, Rebecca Robinson was 8th and Miranda Stoddart was 16th.  The result is all the more impressive given that all the runners are in the first year of this age group.

We also had great performances by our other runners in all the other age groups.  The full results are available here, photos are available on Bryan Dale’s website here, and videos are available on the Athleticos site here.  Well done everyone!

Dates for Midlands Track and Field League

There may be snow on the ground and the temperatures may be minus five but it’s not that long until the outdoor athletics season is upon us.  The dates for the senior track and field league have now been announced and are as follows:

  • Saturday 18 May – Leamington
  • Sunday 9 June – Abingdon
  • Sunday 7 July – Dudley
  • Saturday 10 August – Wyndley

Let’s see if we can have another great season following our promotion last year.

Good luck to everyone competing at the Midlands XC Champs tomorrow!

No sprints group or throws with Graham tonight (Thurs).

Due to the snow, there will be no sprint or throws session with Graham tonight (Thurs). Please spread the word! Other groups may still be training. You’ll need to contact your coach.

The sprint/long jump/hurdles group will be indoors at the high performance centre at the Alexander Staium Perry Barr tomorrow (Friday) from 5.30 – 7pm. It costs £2.10 for under 16 and £4.20 for over 16. If you fancy it, come along. You pay at the main Alenxander Stadium reception, they’ll give you a wrist band and then you walk across to the indoor centre.

Over and Out.

Midland Indoor 1st Open Meeting – 12/13 January

Our sprinters had a great start to the indoor season at the High Performance Centre on Saturday.  Nicholas Pryce set another club record in the 60m sprint with a time of 7.03 seconds. This breaks a record of 7.1 seconds set in 1988 by James Simmons.  Nicholas now is the holder of all the senior men club sprint records upto 400m.  Adam Barnes also ran a couple of fast times.

The results are available here.  Videos are available on the Athleticos site here.  Nick’s record breaking run is here.

Birmingham and District XC League Div 1 – 12 Jan

A 14th place finish for the senior men at a muddy Sandwell Valley yesterday.  The star performance came from Ollie Harradence who finished in 23rd place, his best ever position in Division 1.  Dave Long had a great run to get into the top 100, whilst Chris Taylor ran well to be our 6th counter. The full results are available here.

The Midland Women’s league race was run at the same venue.  Andrea Deathridge was our only runner, finishing in 30th place.

Special thanks to Phil Pollock and Bob Owen who gave up their Saturday afternoon to help us with the marshalling and team management duties.

Cross Country County Championships – 5 January

A fantastic day for our cross country runners at the Warwickshire county championships on Saturday.  We had four individual winners, four team victories and medals won in every age group.  Well done in particular to our new county champions Elemena Saunders (U15 Girls), Katie Ingle (U20 Women), Laura Whittle (Senior Women) and Nick Corker (Masters Men) and to our victorious U13 Girls, U15 Girls, U17 Womens and U20 Womens teams.

There were also individual silver medals for Kieran Mullis (U13 Boys) and individual bronze medals for Shaun Evans (U15 Boys), Georgia Curry (U15 Girls) and Megan McBrien (Junior Women).  The U15 Boys and Masters Mens teams picked up silver medals and the U13 Boys won bronze medals.

Many other runners finished in top ten positions putting them in contention for selection for the inter county championships later in the year.

The full results are available here.

We also had some runners competing at the Staffordshire County Championships.  Results and photos are available here.  Well done everyone!
