Milton Keynes Marathon/Stratford Half Marathon – 29 April
A number of insane brave Sutton runners competed in atrocious conditions at the Milton Keynes Marathon and Stratford Half Marathon yesterday. At Milton Keynes Paul Jenkins completed the course in 3.31 and Mark Rickards got a PB with a 3.37 finish – both great achievements given the weather. At Stratford the weather was described as the worst in the 30 years of the event. Andrea Deathridge was our 1st runner home in 1.31 (not far off a PB), with Clare Davis (2.18), Pete Wells (2.18) and Sarah Smewin (2.27).

Matthew Pennant – UK Under 13 Boys Speed Bounce Champion!
Well done to Chrissie, Hannah, Kane and Matthew, who all performed superbly at the UK Sportshall Final which was held at the NEC yesterday. Chrissie and Hannah both got PBs. Hannah (Under 15 age group) was 5th= in the Vertical Jump and 8th= in the Speed Bounce. Bearing in mind that this makes her 5th and 8th IN THE UK, that’s most impressive. Similarly, Chrissie finished 5th in the Under 13 shot. Both Kane and Matthew came home with gold medals; Kane for his cracking leg in the Under 15 4 x 2 lap relay and Matthew for winning the Under 13 Vertical Jump with a massive leap of 71cm. Well done to all 4 athletes. The Birmingham teams finished well overall; with the Under 13 Girls coming 4th, the Under 13 Boys coming 2nd, the Under 15 Girls were 2nd and the Under 15 Boys came 5th in a very competitive competition.

National 12 Stage Road Relays – 14 April
A 43rd place finish for the Royal Sutton senior men at the National 12 Stage Road Relays in Sutton Park today. This was a great performance given that we were missing 3 of our first team runners. Well done in particular to Colin McAuley who ran well on the dreaded 1st leg and Simon Lees who had a great run on his 1st outing after a series of injuries. Thanks also to Roy for acting as stand in Team Manager – even Fred turned up on time!
